Over the course of four weeks, 186 ideas designed to improve patient care, education and experience; increase access to technology; ensure efficient navigation and operational flow; and support staff wellness were submitted. In addition, more than 700 ratings and 115 comments were logged on the Your Big Idea platform [ http://bigidea.pennmedicine.org ] .

We were overwhelmed by the response and encouraged by the creativity of your submissions. After much deliberation, we’ve chosen the twenty-one ideas below as winners.

Each winning idea will be further explored by running pilots, conducting interviews, and testing simulations over the next 9-12 months. Winners will be notified and engaged in the progress of the exploration during the course of the design timeline.

First, Human Scale-great post! And, very interesting!.

These are my 3 favorites, and the one at the bottom is amazing. After looking at these in greater detail, I do like the design better and knowing that it is an evolving process, hopefully, the design will get better. But the details are pretty sweet and they do make the building more appealing!

Has a look of a cruise ship to be honest.

The bottom pic of the front is great but I doubt the landscape designer would dare block the view into that glorious curved glass lobby.

If this same design were moved vertical instead of horizontal I might drop a third nut. Otherwise it's just ok. Something inside me believes everyone on this project at Foster + Partners has been doing some serious eye rolling. Yes I know it's a billion dollar project which raises the design fee, but how many redesigns is this? How many renders? Increases in size, decreases in budget. It exhausting just typing it.

well site prep is definitely underway. I was just over there. Piles are being driven and tons of workers are on the site already.

A very modern and futuristic design. I like the curved edges...Norman Foster designs are pretty much guaranteed winners in my book.

permits have been issued for foundation work only at the hospital site. This has to be coming to CDR soon- maybe October.

^ As far as I know, Penn's full Board of Trustees has not yet voted on final approval of the design and budget for this project, which would be required before construction could begin in earnest. Perhaps that will occur at the next full board meeting on October 28th.

It is safe to conclude that they are not going to dig a basement or underground parking lot?

Nope, it's not. :) I'm pretty sure that the last few photos show pile-drivers and sheet & shoring piles, which would indicate a fairly substantial dig that needs shoring. Also, per 1487's post above, only permits for foundation work have been issued for this site at this point. And I believe that someone with some inside knowledge previously posted that there would be parking or something else underground.
