Amtrack got its money in the infrastructure bill and work is already moving to bring Amtrak between Phoenix and Tucson:
They've already approved funds to rebuild the Yuma Amtrak station: https://azbex.com/yuma-gets-10-6m-gr...ation-project/ Rendering (How it looks now might as well be a train station in Iraq) : https://azbex.com/newrelease/wp-cont...-1-678x381.png Amtrak estimates bringing the line will take three years before operational, most of that would be stations and right of way, the rail is already in place. This will also help get the area prepped for HSR which is in the "indefinite planning" stages route approved with no money and no timeline. The plan calls for three round trips a day, 2.5 hours phoenix to Tucson (a little longer than driving not counting traffic and future congestion) Round Trip route https://realestatedaily-news.com/wp-...on-Phoenix.png Western Regional Plan https://www.railwayage.com/wp-conten...08/Amtrak2.png |
I would add the second phase of the Valley Line LRT in Edmonton. It's 14 kilometers long. https://www.edmonton.ca/projects_pla...lley-line-west

There are indefinite plans for a future commuter rail largely on the same set of tracks, Amtrak is planning three trips a day from Tucson-Buckeye and back
Outside of People trying to commute to Tempe/Phoenix from Coolidge or Buckeye I don't think it will be often enough for mainstream commuter traffic. But much of the cost to build a future commuter rail will be done by Amtrak making the general commuter plans more affordable from the states perspective. The yellow alternative was selected for future build (overlays the Amtrak plans) https://realestatedaily-news.com/wp-...2013june27.png |
Alright that's exciting, adding
Toronto's Ontario Line as a 10 miles (16 km) metro line, Toronto's Eglinton West extension as 6 miles (9km) LRT, Edmonton's Valley West as 17 mile (27 km) LRT. Not adding Amtrak plans to the list yet because funded ≠ under construction. |

Scarborough was already on the list.
Need further clarification on what to do about the Ontario line. What does "it's mostly GO related" actually mean? |
San Bernardino Arrow
Here is a photo I found on Flickr of the San Bernardino Arrow rail vehicles being delivered. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...60d69af5_b.jpg Via Kevin Bleich. |
Thanks for sharing. Very informative.

Not sure why this isn't included but MBTA's South Coast Rail Project (extending to south coast cities of New Bedford and Fall River) is under construction. https://www.mbta.com/projects/south-coast-rail

I appears that Toronto has been on a rail building binge for a decade or more.
What is the proposed "final" rail system gonna look like, its gotta be really impressive? |

The future subway map will look something like this: https://images.dailyhive.com/2021020...1.46.49-PM.png https://dailyhive.com/toronto/toront...maps-2023-2031 But there are more projects than that, as it doesn't include Mississauga's LRT or the GO transit network which is in itself expanding massively. This is what the subway map looked like between 2002 and 2017, before the first of the new expansions opened, for comparison: https://www.ctvnews.ca/polopoly_fs/1...1020/image.jpg https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ttc-to-un...ghan-1.3382981 |
Today was the partial opening of one of two branches of the MBTA's green line extension. It was the Somerville branch opening today, while the Medford branch is expected to open at some point this year (maybe summer).

Vancouver's Broadway Subway extension
Mt Pleasant station A 39-storey highrise was just approved that will sit over top of this station. This is the station where the tunnel entrance will be. |
I don't see anything on the front page regarding the LA Regional Connector which is a 1.9 mile light rail subway line almost complete in downtown LA. It will have 3 news stops and will be open this fall.

Tempe, AZ Street car opened today and can be taken off the list (posted from the street car 👍)

Some great news came along with it though, according to Mass Transit Magazine, the price tag to connect Wawa to West Chester (and in turn Philadelphia) has dropped dramatically to a much more feasible amount. PA: Planning continues to reestablish Philly train service to West Chester Quote:
