I was going to post abput this the other week but it slipped my gourd. I applaud the design but if you see it in person or go to the architects website showing up close details some of the quality leaves a bit to be desired. The expansion joints in the brickwork dont look hot at all in the sun and the parapet/cornice has this horrendous thin and rippled aluminum cap that looks like garbage. Does zero justice to the admirably unique concept unfortunately. |

NYC $400M plan promises 7,500 jobs, 2,400 housing units, a new school, more open space on Staten Island waterfront Updated: Sep. 14, 2023 By Paul Liotta | pliotta@siadvance.com STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A $400 million city investment will see the North Shore’s waterfront transformed with more big business, housing, a new school and open space, Mayor Eric Adams announced Thursday. From Stapleton to New Brighton, and possibly beyond, the plan envisions a totally new North Shore waterfront with open space, 2,400 housing units, and business opportunities that officials say could bring more than 7,500 new jobs and $3.8 billion in economic impact. *** PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE Before 2024, the city will break ground on the new $200 million Stapleton esplanade along Front Street, and the Mary Cali Dalton Recreation Center meant to replace the former Cromwell Center in Tompkinsville. Additionally, by the end of the year, the city will begin its search for proposals on how best to redevelop the Jersey Street Sanitation Garage into a 200-unit affordable housing development, revamp the New York Wheel site, and transform a portion of the Stapleton waterfront, just south of the Urby housing development, into a mixed-income community. Through 2027, the plan lays out a number of additional projects, including the completion of Lighthouse Point, the revitalization of Pier One, and a public-space transformation of much of the waterfront from Richmond Terrace and Jersey Street to just before Front Street’s intersection with Bay Street. BRIDGE TO BRIDGE VISION While the plan focuses on those neighborhoods, it also shares a future bridge-to-bridge vision that would connect the North Shore waterfront from the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge to the Bayonne Bridge. more: https://www.silive.com/news/2023/09/...ront-area.html https://www.silive.com/resizer/XS38J...TYTZKI37GA.JPG A $400 million city investment will see the North Shore’s waterfront transformed with more big business, housing and open space, Mayor Eric Adams announced Thursday. Gansevoort Peninsula located in Hudson River Park has a public beach, sports field, a beachfront landing for non-motorized boats like kayaks and 20 million oysters around the land. Gov. Kathy Hochul spoke at the opening and said Gansevoort is the largest park built in New York City since Central Park. “This day, this place, reminds me why New Yorkers are so exceptional,” Hochul said. “To take a place that had been abandoned and overlooked and forgotten and turn it into a gathering place for people from around the world.“ The peninsula was previously a depot for the Department of Sanitation, according to the Hudson River Park Trust. It sits across from the Whitney Museum on Gansevoort Street and alongside the Hudson River Greenway. Investing in NYC’s Film & TV Industry On October 24, I attended the groundbreaking of Sunset Pier 94, which represents a significant investment in New York City’s film and television industry and one of the most important public amenities in Manhattan, the Hudson River Park. I’m grateful for this innovative collaboration that will both create jobs and improvements to the park, as well as workforce development and training programs to help connect our local residents to opportunities in film and TV. https://pubfiles.nysenate.gov/crm/ho...2298aa8dd7.png *** New York Studio Project Adds Blackstone And Hudson Pacific Properties; $350M Pier 94 Site Will Have Manhattan’s First Purpose-Built Film And TV Stages By Dade Hayes August 29, 2023 The future site of Manhattan’s first purpose-built film and TV soundstages has added two blue-chip backers, private equity firm Blackstone and real estate company Hudson Pacific Properties. Office space giant Vornado Realty Trust had already been aboard the Sunset Pier 94 Studios project, which has been in the works for several years. The three companies have now formed a private-public partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corp., committing a total of $350 million to the effort. The location along the Hudson River and the West Side Highway is about a mile north of Chelsea Piers, a long-established TV production hub. Located between 10th and 11th Avenues, the lot is two blocks west of the 50th Street subway station, serviced by the C and E trains. Joel Kolkmann of Douglaston Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. Permit details also specify this is a Department of Housing Preservation and Development project.
The proposed 66-foot-tall development will yield 131,668 square feet, with 125,540 square feet designated for residential space and 6,128 square feet for community facility space.
