Amtrak estimates bringing the line will take three years before operational, most of that would be stations and right of way, the rail is already in place. This will also help get the area prepped for HSR which is in the "indefinite planning" stages route approved with no money and no timeline.

The plan calls for three round trips a day, 2.5 hours phoenix to Tucson (a little longer than driving not counting traffic and future congestion)

That's interesting, most of it largely has the character of a commuter rail line. Are frequencies planned to allow for commuting? (or is some other authority going to provide commuter service?).

There are indefinite plans for a future commuter rail largely on the same set of tracks, Amtrak is planning three trips a day from Tucson-Buckeye and back

Outside of People trying to commute to Tempe/Phoenix from Coolidge or Buckeye I don't think it will be often enough for mainstream commuter traffic.

But much of the cost to build a future commuter rail will be done by Amtrak making the general commuter plans more affordable from the states perspective.

Toronto's Ontario Line as a 10 miles (16 km) metro line,
Toronto's Eglinton West extension as 6 miles (9km) LRT,
Edmonton's Valley West as 17 mile (27 km) LRT.

Not adding Amtrak plans to the list yet because funded ≠ under construction.

If I were you, I'd add the Scarborough Subway Extension, instead of the Ontario Line. The construction for the Ontario Line hasn't started; the work is mostly GO related. Meanwhile, the TBM for the Scarborough extension is already being shipped to Toronto.

Scarborough was already on the list.

Need further clarification on what to do about the Ontario line. What does "it's mostly GO related" actually mean?

I assume he means that there is work on the surface rail sections where the Ontario Line will run parallel to GO (~2.75km in the east and ~.75km in the west) and that the work isn't directly on the OL trackage.

Toronto is roughly doubling it's subway network right now.

But there are more projects than that, as it doesn't include Mississauga's LRT or the GO transit network which is in itself expanding massively.

Today was the partial opening of one of two branches of the MBTA's green line extension. It was the Somerville branch opening today, while the Medford branch is expected to open at some point this year (maybe summer).

I don't see anything on the front page regarding the LA Regional Connector which is a 1.9 mile light rail subway line almost complete in downtown LA. It will have 3 news stops and will be open this fall.

I actually went by this over the weekend, and the parking garage isn't finished yet. Looks like there is a news article from a few weeks ago that says the extension opening has been moved from July 1st to August 21st.

Some great news came along with it though, according to Mass Transit Magazine, the price tag to connect Wawa to West Chester (and in turn Philadelphia) has dropped dramatically to a much more feasible amount.
