10 more floors and it should pass up Sky55 in height. After that, OMPW is next!

Great shots!
Now that its gaining some height after the setback from the base/podium its starting to look almost airy and elegant, especially looking at it from its north facade on Roosevelt. Some of the renderings on the first page (especially the very first one) made it seem that OGP would turn out fat and clunky, especially when visually comparing it with OMP and OMPW. It doesn't seem that will be the case however, which is a relief. |
What a view, is this overlooking the 78?
|
^ Appears so. Looks like the shot was take from 18th St viaduct just southeast of the Ping Tom Park field house.

^ My bad, I meant southwest of the field house.

Has there been any word on the second tower for this site? Will it begin once this one finishes similar to Wolf Point? Or will it need additional approval from the city and/or additional time for funding?

I would think that OGP and Essex would suck up a lot of the rental demand in the immediate area once they come online and start leasing, so it wouldn't be an immediate start for the 2nd tower. Another factor is that the economy might start to slow down or cycle to recession in the next 12 to 24 months as well, so its fairly likely 2GP might not break ground this real estate cycle. |
The Paragon (1326 S Michigan), too. All these developments in the area will also slow down Riverline, however I feel like those developers saw that coming which is why they started with a smaller building.
Also I wonder if there is a chance that phase2 could be a completely different design...or if the developer would even sell the lot (I feel like that wont be the case though in the event of a economic downturn you never know) |

Crescent Heights bought these two sites from the Central Station folks. The Grant (OMPW) had already been sold to Related Midwest during the recession. So Fogelson/Forrest City owns nothing fronting on Grant Park.
Yes, the future second tower will be a different design. |

I hope not. Twins would have squared off that corner nicely. I hope they dont go back to a curved building, that corner should have a sharp edge to it.

I don't mind a different design either as longer as its height is not compromised!
|
I still really hope they use the original design of Grant Park 3 somewhere else in chicago, along with the spiral crown of OMPW.
Scroll down to Oct. 20 2008 http://www.sloopin.com/2008/10/?m=1 Sorry, couldn't find another image of that drawing off of google. |

I really like the twin tower aspect of the original design. |

Anyway, definitely hope they don't revert to that design |
It's like a cartoonish One57. Would make more sense as a sculpture in Grant Park than a tower, honestly.

Haha. Why's everyone hating on Three Grant Park? I guess I'm rolling solo on that idea haha. I just think its unique, maybe better fit for Miami but I still like it. That and Canyon Ranch were two of my favorite recent fall-throughs. Except of course for Waldorf, Maderin Oriental, and Waterview.
Has there been any resurgence in the Intercontinental north tower or is that entire idea just dead. |
I don't hate the old GP3 design, but I definitely don't think it belongs along the south wall of Grant Park. Put it somewhere in River North instead.
|
Lol it actually would look good there, like right next to grand plaza. it could be its ugly glass cousin.
|
^ TBH, anything would look good next to Grand Plaza. That is one of the fugliest developments that has ever graced God's green earth. The design is absolute shit and the Loewenburg should feel like shit for letting that happen.
|
Not to get too off topic but grand plaza is probably the ugliest building i've seen in the US, not as ugly as some stuff in Russia, but...
|
Maybe ass ugly exterior but the penthouse views are siiiiiiiiiiiiick!!!
|
The old GP3 scimitower design is/was straight trash. Thank God that wasn't built.
As for the pair to OGP I hope it is a new design. I like OGP but was never a big fan of it having a 'twin' |

Are the phase two entitlements already in place?
|
Yes.
|
Looking with binoculars on a very clear day, I still can’t pick out OGP’s tower crane. It just blends into the OMPs.
But Essex stands out very well now. |
|
Beautiful shots

Thanks for the photos, BVic! Just over a third of the way up and it's already such a presence on the south end of Grant Park!
When its complete, that huge injection of residents (~800 units) is really going to add to the liveliness of Michigan Ave south of Roosevelt, and the neighborhood as a whole. |
Let's hope this gives that area a big bar and restaurant boom. Not much night life or good bars around there.
|
The shorter tower crane used for the garage was removed this weekend.

1201 S Prairie photos of One Grant Park
Does anyone have any pictures from the units in 1201 S Prairie? I would like to see how this building is blocking the views. If you could, please post. Thanks

Now the folks in the red building to the South - particularly those on the NE corner - they just got hosed. |

^ nice shot |
One Grant Park would be 1200 S. Indiana, not 1200 S. Prairie. Not sure if they'll use that, or 113 E. Roosevelt.
Purchasers in the various Central Station buildings (maybe not all buildings) were given promises at purchase about what view angles—primarily those over the park—would never be blocked. Purchasers in The Grant (née One Museum Park West) always knew a building would be built west of them. |

Who could promise "view angles" ? |
[QUOTE=harryc;8109030]1201 is the greenish building in the center - across the street from 1200 S Prarie (the real address of "One Grant Park"). Can't see how this would block any view except those on the SW corner of the building, who had only a sliver of a view before.
The entire western view will be blocked. I was hoping someone could take some pictures inside 1201 Prairie facing west. I want pictures from those units of the Grant. Thank you. |
