It was Sean Linnane from Magellan. He was annoyed because the person asking the question stated that the Sun Times article said the Magellan paid for a permit, with Sean said wasn't necessarily true.

^ Something of an 'unconventional' use of "necessarily" on Mr. Linnane's part.....


My read is they don't like the coverage with respect to the program.....nor should they, given its many problematic characteristics in practice....

Commission approves 50-story plan for 193 N. Columbus Drive in Lakeshore East with 640 residential units and 570 hotel rooms. The project will seek LEED Silver designation.

Very happy they approved this one. Its gonna add great density to that pocket. Its also a rectangle which will visually strengthen the city grid context there.

Very nice! Won't really impact the skyline much (unless you are standing in LSE park), since it will be surrounded by buildings of roughly equal height or (much) taller, but still a nice boost to the area's density. More people = more vibrancy.

I'm all for plugging the gaps and adding density, but this has to be my least favorite building of anything proposed in the last 4 years. The four different boxes look so poorly contrived, even though I believe the design is meant to divide up the development's different components.

And maybe it'll look much better in practice. But so far, I'm not a fan.

I guess its good that it won't be highly visible then? lol

I don't mind the design, its a bit eclectic which actually helps it fit in at the very diverse collection of buildings at LSE. You got the ugly-ish Lowenberg pomo midrises (Shoreham & Tides), the modernist SCB designed 340 OTP & bKL Coast, and the gorgeous and graceful Gang designed Aqua and Vista.

Get it in before the market turns! :)

I like it. I love collage looking buildings. Reminds me of De Rotterdam, which is the only example I can think of right now.

When put this way, I definitely am able to live with the building's look and feel a lot more. Should be fun to watch it rise at the very least. Love me massive concrete beasts :cheers:

If so that's a hell of lot of hotel rooms for such a skinny building.

I know this is an older version but it shows how BCBS building dwarfs it and BCBS is not really massive.



Kind of tight for 640 residential units and 570 hotel rooms. Its a pretty narrow lot and it won't have a good southern sun exposure with BCBS right south of it. GD shadows. Gets get Mr. DownTown's take on this. He's good for legal mumbo jumbo and shadows.

I like it, especially given the site constraints. Also a pedway connection to the grocery store is quite a nice amenity... If one worked in the right place, one would never need to go outside in winter.

I hope this starts some time soon. It’s been lingering as a proposal for quite a while

It would be nice to get this one built just to eliminate the only remaining gap in the West half of LSE. The big hole where this is going to go really puts a damper on the "completeness" of the area and the park in particular. The rest of the remaining sites are all relegated to the isolated East end of the development where no one notices them except from LSD.

Can someone post rendering of the most recent design?

If there was one thing I could change about this tower, it would be to reorient the tower to rise from Columbus, instead of LSE Park. It would give the park a bit more breathing room, while helping frame the street wall on Columbus.

Uhhhh... the BCBS building is absolutely massive... It's over 2 million square feet of office space mi amigo. It's half a Sears tower!
