39-story tower to break ground in Oakland
By Fiona Kelliher – Real estate reporter, San Francisco Business Times

An ambitious 39-story tower next to Oakland's 19th Street BART Station is poised to break ground.

Construction at 1900 Broadway will kick off in June, with a projected opening date in 2021, developer Lincoln Property Co. and capital partner Behring Cos confirmed.

The mixed-use project will consist of 452 residential units, plus about 50,000 square feet of commercial space and 6,700 square feet of ground-floor retail. Entitlements also include restoration of the four-story Tapscott Building that has occupied the 19th Street and Broadway corner for nearly a century.

"It’s, in our view, as good of a site as there can be as it relates to public transit, housing and amenities," said Brandon Wang, executive vice president of Lincoln Property Co.

Several potential co-working tenants have expressed interest in the commercial portion in order to have access to clients living in the same building, said Colin Behring, CEO of Behring Cos. Of the residential units, 24 will be four-bedroom “co-living" apartments that can be shared in an effort to bring down rent. Behring declined to share the development cost of the project or rent estimates . . . .

Good looking tower and will be a nice addition to Oakland’s skyline.

OAKLAND | Stak Site @ 1900 Broadway | 395 FT | 36 FLOORS

Excavation Underway For Stak Site At 1900 Broadway In Downtown Oakland

Excavation is well underway at 1900 Broadway, the site for a 36-story tower dubbed the Stak Site in Downtown Oakland. Behring Co is developing the project. At full buildout, 1900 Broadway and the adjoined Tapscott Building will add retail and 452 new apartments to the Bay Area housing market.

The 395-foot tower will yield 472,470 square feet, of which approximately 342,000 square feet will be a rentable residential area, 6,680 square feet for ground-level retail, and the remainder for 226 parking spaces. Of the 452 units, the majority will be one or two-bedroom units, with some studios and a handful of three and four-bedroom units.

Solomon Cordwell Buenz is responsible for the architecture, following initial designs from Oakland-based Brick. SCB’s curtain-wall tower is punctuated by thin champagne-tone bands outdoor terraces spanning roughly 500 square feet on every other floor.

This will be Oakland's third-tallest tower upon completion, by the way.

Agreed, really cool and in pretty good shape!

Just going by the renderings, it would appear they might go ahead and incorporate the signs into the final product:

At 395 ft, at time of completion, this will be Oakland's 3rd tallest building.

Mods, can we merge this thread with this one?

395 to the roof. Probably more like 415 to the very top.

Agreed. This is going to be an excellent addition.

This project is now taller than its 12-story, 150ft neighbor at 1970 Broadway. I count 15 or 16 stories on the new tower since it has residential ceiling heights. I only got the one pic, but you can start to see the skeleton of the tower peek into the skyline from quite a few angles now.
