VOLVO ASSEMBLY PLANT
SHAH ALAM, GREATER KUALA LUMPUR
Volvo is the first car assemble in Malaysia (1967), in 2019, Volvo saw an unprecedented sales performance of 705,452 units sold globally, a first for the Swedish car company. Production in the Shah Alam assembly plant also increased to around 5,000 units so interestingly, VCM actually exports more cars outside of Malaysia – to countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam and Philippines – than it sells locally.

Volvo Car Malaysia partners with ERTH to tackle e-waste at showrooms, factory

Quote:

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia Sdn Bhd (VCM) has partnered with E-waste Recycling Through Heroes (ERTH) to provide E-waste Green Box to all Volvo car dealerships nationwide and Volvo Car Manufacturing Malaysia (VCMM) plant.

The initiative comes off the back of VCM's ongoing sustainability campaign – the Volvo Green Planet – which aims to bring greater awareness towards today's pressing climate concerns and propel the brand closer to its long-term goal of becoming climate neutral by 2040.

ERTH, a registered organisation with the Malaysian Department of Environment collects, purchases and transports electronic waste to be recycled at local government-licensed recycling facilities.

VCM's mission is to reduce CO2 emissions per car by 40 per cent between 2018 and 2025 through electrification, and also tackles carbon emissions in all aspects of its business, from manufacturing and operations to its supply chain and even its approach to recycling and reuse of materials.

Quote:

KUALA LUMPUR: InvestKL is upbeat about achieving 10 multinational companies(MNCs) to set up operations in Greater Kuala Lumpur with a combined investment value of RM1 billion this year.

Chief executive officer Muhammad Azmi Zulkifli said the agency would provide an update of Malaysia's investment status for the first quarter (Q1) in the coming weeks.

The firm's next 10-year strategic plan, anchored on the National Investment Aspiration (NIA) blueprint, is focused on attracting high quality investments in technology and innovation-based activities to catalyse Malaysia's move towards a high-income economy.

The target came after InvestKL, which is under International Trade and Industry Ministry, completed its 2011-2020 target of attracting 100 MNCs to invest in Greater KL.

InvestKL achieved its target of attracting 100 corporations last October and ended last year by securing a total of 103 high growth companies in various industries in line with the nation's key economic growth areas.

With a total investment of RM15.8 billion, about 14,111 regional executive jobs were created throughout the 10-year period.

To date, some RM11.4 billion or 72 per cent of the committed investment have been realised.

A total of 10,411 or 74 per cent of the committed jobs have been filled, and 8,646 Malaysians are currently employed in these high value jobs.

InvestKL said Europe accounted for the largest investment with 51 companies, followed by Asia Pacific (28 companies) and United States (24 companies during the 10-year period.

Nestlé Malaysia opens its first plant-based meals production site in Asean

(L-R): Selangor MB Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd chairman Tan Sri Syed Anwar Jamalullail, Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd chief executive officer Juan Aranols officiating the launch of Nestlé's first Plant-Based Meal Solutions manufacturing facility in Asean, and only its second in Asia, in Shah Alam yesterday.
Quote:

KUALA LUMPUR: Nestle S.A, through Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd, has launched its pioneering plant-based meal solutions manufacturing facility in Shah Alam, Selangor, the group's first in Asean and one of only two in Asia.

Nestle Malaysia invested RM150 million in the facility, which has been the main contributor to the RM280 million capital expenditure in 2020, the company's highest in the last six years.

The new facility in Shah Alam will cater to the rising demand for plant-based foods and will supply local demand as well as exports.

Nestle vice president and chief executive officer for Asia, Oceania and sub-Saharan Africa Chris Johnson said it had chosen Malaysia, and Selangor particularly, for the new manufacturing hub as it had the right infrastructure, trade links and access to talent and capabilities.

The group yesterday launched its RM570 million Sime Darby Motors City (SDMC) at Ara Damansara township here, touted as the largest automotive complex in Southeast Asia.

Sime Darby has car and commercial vehicle distributorships and dealerships in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

Earlier, Basham said as one of the key players in the automotive industry, Sime Darby Motors had always been committed to providing world-class services to its customers.

"The launch of Sime Darby Motors City is a testament to this steadfast commitment," he added.

Sime Darby Motors managing director (retail and distribution) Jeffrey Gan said SDMC aimed to be an exemplary centre for everything automotive.

"SDMC is truly a one-stop hub for customers shopping for their next vehicle," he said.

The massive investment in SDMC reflects Sime Darby's optimism in the local automotive sector.

Gan said Sime Darby Motors had seen good sales in the past one year.

"We are pretty positive about our sales outlook for the rest of the year," he said, adding that the company expected its sales growth this year to be in line with the Malaysian Automotive Association's (MAA) forecast of eight per cent expansion in the overall sales of new vehicles.

On the sales tax exemption for new vehicles which will end in June, Gan said Sime Darby Motors had submitted its request for an extension through the MAA.

SDMC is Malaysia's first automotive facility that deploys Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

At the heart of the facility's digital infrastructure is its Vehicle Tracking Management system which utilises a camera-based parking guide and customisable signages to ensure a higher level of guidance, security and convenience for the customer.

The Volvo flagship store there features Southeast Asia's first 3S showroom to be equipped with a Virtual Reality Studio.

Overall, SDMC spans across 8.6 acres with an overall built-up area of 1.3 million square feet over eight levels.
