"P.S. I didn't mention the "Dollar Line" because. .um. . I don't know what it is."

The "Dollar Line" was a worldwide steamship line that existed from 1902 to 1938. Its ships were named after American presidents, and when it failed the fleet became the American President Lines.

We can't have a conversation about statues without mentioning Myrna (Loy) standing in front of Venice High School.

Here she is today. (now in bronze)

I know that we've discussed Myrna's statue in the past but I happened upon a couple of photographs that we might have seen before.

Here she is before the 1933 earthquake.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/922/GxgcaE.jpg

The dude in front is a V.H.S. student named Doug Armstrong.

Amazingly, Myrna survived the earthquake!..The school, not so much.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/923/elgJFV.jpg

But over the years Myrna's arms crumbled and were rearranged.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/UNBwpc.jpg

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/M7tden.jpg

I'm not even going to mention the butt-ugly fence. :slob:

BELOW:..Myrna's broken arm(s) is visible in this scene from the movie Grease.

Myrna's statue was saved from further deterioration and eventually a new statue was made after the original design and cast in bronze. (return to top photo)

I'm guessing the small building is the Wilmington Depot. ..I'm still looking for its location.

Beaudry post: Anna May Wong

Thank you for the excellent post. Just curious if you know whatever happened to those trees that she planted in Chinatown Plaza 1938? It seems like they were taken down or perhaps replanted elsewhere. Sorry I don't have any pics to post so I hope you are familiar with them.

So the X PO Theater only lasted as a porn theater for less than a year.

Well.... that happens. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway depot was at 711 E. Anaheim Street.

Here it is on an aerial from 1944.

I'll show myself out... :runaway:

Yes, back in the olden days, before video casettes, DVD discs and internet porn, the venue for such wickedness was adult theaters, and booths in adult bookstores. The only vestage of that era are the few nude theaters that remain where women get on stage and dance in their birthday suits for tips. Very quaint. Most of the adult magazines are long one. Are Playboy and Hustler still around? Penthouse is long gone.

I wonder what the woman is searching for in that cardboard box? Free tennis balls? Sometimes people left unwanted pets in such boxes. Maybe there is a litter of cute kittens or puppies in the box for people to adopt. The lady seems to be smiling.

Here's a rather grand theater that was converted to porn.

The only time I saw a porn in a theater was a double bill at the Nuart Theater in West L.A. The two films were a 3-D xxx porn and John Water's Pink Flamingos (as the main feature). The highlight of the porn, and the only scene that I remember, involved a giant dildo that 'floated' out over the audience until it was directly over heads. haha ...A Cinematic Masterpiece!

Unless I'm mistaken the insignia on the truck pulling the airplane is Bock Co.

FWIW. The Bock Co. was a civil engineering and roadwork firm. You can just see the tip of a Civil Air Patrol insignia on the fuselage of the Ercoupe in the parade.
