How did it start ?

Rather than arguing, I guess the best will be to refer them to the inaugural posts of the thread : p. 2 #34 Sopas takes the initiative of posting only cars and #37 Ethereal welcomes these photos by... posting cars ; p.3 #43 Sopas posts a broad assortment of criminal photographs and #47 Ethereal adds Mickey Cohen's armoured car. |

There's only a scant couple of mentions that I've found on NLA about Boardner's. One was a post from Godzilla (referenced by BifRayRock) that shows a scene from Ed Wood with Martin Landau and Johnny Depp on the street in front of Boardner's. The post also references the same L.A. Weekly article that I referenced on the Boardner's website. Another from Tovangar2 shows an interior scene inside Boardner's from L.A. Confidential. Both of these are linked here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=10464 I looked for some historic photos of Boardner's, but there does not seem to be any. (?) I searched for photos of Cherokee Ave. or Hollywood Blvd. and Cherokee and didn't have any luck. For being a location that was around since the 20's, and Boardner's since 1942, the only photos seem to be from movies like Ed Wood, L.A. Confidential and this one from Gangster Squad: http://www.hollywoodwaxmuseum.com/bl...s1-300x200.jpg Click on the above photo for a very large version. The neon sign in the above photo is yellow, but it's normally green. Uness it flashes/changes--the border in the green photo isn't lit. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tqAxNQrDNH...oardners_1.jpg As seen in Ed Wood: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ejYvAHNR_p...ers_EdWood.jpg Currently: http://blog.allanellenberger.com/wp-...oardners-2.jpgAllan Ellenberger |

The oldest photo I can currently find of Boardner's (opened in 1942) was taken at about half of it's current age of 72, c.1977-1979. There was an underground Clubhouse called Masque that developed for a few years in the late 70's, from '77-'79. The address to the Masque was 1655 N. Cherokee Avenue. The entrance was from an alley behind that ran between Cherokee and Las Palmas. (More info on Masque HERE.)
The following photo is of patrons in the alley waiting to enter the establshment. Boardner's is across the street. http://lh5.ggpht.com/gogonotes/R8xEt...0/IMG_1862.JPGphoto by Alain Saint-Alix |

Rock Around The Clock in LA Noir
The film Blackboard Jungle was filmed at MGM Studio in Culver City in 1955. A few of the scenes were filmed at El Segundo High.
A certain song was made famous in that film....hear it at this link ~ scenes from the movie are included: http://youtu.be/TRhYNLaziO8 El Segundo High School http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ps1fbd1894.jpg LAUSD |
Interesting problem
Now I'm being told you may not host images you do not 'own' on Flickr for posting here or elsewhere with or without attribution.

There are millions of photos posted by people who do not ''own'' them. |

We've explored Elks Lodge 99 a few times on this thread, but not so much with recent images. Check out these shots I took when I went inside.
More pictures here: www.SouthOnSpring.com http://southonspring.com/wp-content/...arkPlaza-1.jpg http://southonspring.com/wp-content/...-4-940x627.jpg http://southonspring.com/wp-content/...arkPlaza-5.jpg http://southonspring.com/wp-content/...arkPlaza-8.jpg http://southonspring.com/wp-content/...orial-hall.jpg |

Is this still the Elks or something else....or do they rent it out to other organizations? Its certainly a beautiful building.....very impressive. |
L.A. Elks 99 is now Park Plaza Hotel. Elks sold it a while back.

It's called the Park Plaza Hotel but its never really been a hotel. The area (Macarthur Park) is far too rundown to support the building being a hotel. The building basically does weddings & film shoots year around. |
