Bringing Metro-North down the West Side is really the biggest benefit, but I don't see many riders traveling through Penn Station on a crosstown trip... |

I hate to nitpick, but I'm going to. The tile specifically is kind of a let down in this station. The tile seems too small if that makes sense. The floor tile, while materially nice, is underscaled, it should have been larger pieces like 24"+ squares. And the wall tile could be less busy as well. Overall it seems like everything could be "cleaner" and more "broad stroked" in execution. Like many MTA designs it seems "OK" neither terribly dissapointing or impressive. And for the record, I think the potato chip entrance canopy neither matches the future scale or grandeur of its location. That entrance should have said "Wow!" instead it says "Oh look there's the subway." Actually the entire station sort of just says "Here's the subway" not "Welcome to the future premier business center in Manhattan." It should have been more similar to Canary Wharf station on the Underground.
Negative critical screed over. |
How long before the discarded bubblegum, spilled soda, urine smell and scratchitti show up?

A radical idea for MTA to secure funding is to transfer the development rights of Hudson Yards to MTA.

well that's a hell of a lot nicer than the rest of the MTA stations.

Are the new office towers going to have an entrance to the subway, or will one have to walk outside?

I remember seeing a news report on some escalators that where broken for six years on 53rd and Lex. That was a fun walk up those steps that day. The question is, how long will these remain broken? :D I find it comical though. Six years... :haha: Although Newark Penn's escalators are always FUBAR, and when they are working, they have the nerve to clean them during rush hour. |

When east side access opens, there will be a possibility of making a one seat ride to jfk.
