Honestly if it became CanadInns the awful red awnings would have at least fit in...

Speaking of bright red, the Traveller's building (Peasant Cookery) is getting a bit of a makeover. They have started painting the ground level window frames a popping bright red vs. the sort of burgundy that it was. Will definitely stand out.

That sounds slightly horrifying. I hope they don't touch the brick. Would love to see a campaign by the BIZ or HW to get building owners to strip all the paint off their buildings and restore the brick where the paint looks like crap. 246 McDermot, 103 Princess, Citizen/Maw's all come to mind. I do like the way the two Pan Am Boxing buildings turned out.

removing the pain can do allot of damage though to the brick

1919 General Strike Monument 'Bloody Saturday'
Location: Pantages Playhouse Theatre Plaza
Artists: Bernie Miller and Noam Gonick
Status: Completed
Description: On a Saturday six weeks into the 1919 strike, tens of thousands of people gathered on Main Street at the former city hall to support striking workers and to protest the arrest days earlier of labour leaders.
https://i.imgur.com/PqPU6oU.jpg
When a streetcar driven by strikebreakers approached, demonstrators rocked it off its tracks and set fire to it. The North West Mounted Police, joined by untrained special constables, rode into the crowd with clubs and guns. Bullets were fired. Two people died and dozens were injured as a result of the confrontation on a day now known as Bloody Saturday.

When can we expect the mb museum to move forward with thier science center project?

Also i believe our dt has way more potential than calgary and edmonton.. we have so many surface lots available to build new and exciting projects on where as those cities have limited space... also projects like true north square and with what's going on at the forks and old psb it can really push us over the top... even the area around u of w is seeing alot of growth and development

Maybe after the 2023 provincial election

I really love the General Strike monument. It really grounds our city in time and place. A real sense of history. More please!

How vandal-proof is it?

Kronos Jun 22, 2019 6:14 PM

Does anyone have information about the building currently being constructed in front of the new Best Western hotel build on Regent Avenue?

Would you be asking that same question if this were in Toronto?

No, because I wouldn't care in that case.

In Toronto, the question would be how the city ever agreed to allow an entire 500 square feet of space downtown to be devoted to something other than a condo.

From the plans on the city website, it appears that its the banquet rooms, kitchen and pool portion of the complex.

It’s still kind of a dumb question to ask. How vandal-proof is anything? How vandal-proof are you?

Yeah, that was pretty much my point. And especially people from places like Toronto who poo-poo everything that happens here (regardless of he is originally from here or not). You know.... Centre of the Universe and all that jazz.

I think saying New York or London is the centre of the world might be somewhat legit, Toronto is a small tier below that unfortunately.

And by the way check out this official launch ceremony of the monument
