While we're in Exposition Park here's an early postcard of the 'west wing' of the Museum of History, Science and Art.
http://imageshack.us/a/img51/5489/vkqb.jpgebay -the massive new addition (dinosaur hall I believe) dwarfs the original 1913 museum. http://imageshack.us/a/img9/4495/v3sr.jpg google_earth The original Beaux-Arts building was by Hudson and Munsell. Look where her knees are - they give a good indicator of her height. She actually has at least one of her forearms on her forehead, most likely shielding her eyes from the sun. |
Some extra large vintage Downtown goodness:

:previous: -Damn those are huge HunterK!
I like how you can see inside this room in the first photo. http://imageshack.us/a/img834/4019/ysur.jpg It's a bit eerie, in a voyeuristic kind of way. (my noirish imagination wants to see a dead body on that floor) ;) |

It's funny how coincidence works. Earlier tonight, when I was looking for pictures of Exposition Park, I came across the picture below.
http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...1.jpg~original USC Digital Library I noticed a roof sign and zoomed in: http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...irchSmith2.jpg Detail of photo above. Before I had a chance to look up Birch-Smith Storage, HunterK posted the large pictures above. The picture below is clipped from the one of 7th & Hill. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...irchSmith3.jpg Detail of photo originally posted by HunterK. There's only seven years between the photos, so can I assume the two businesses are linked? |
This is something that startled me!

Apparently, that's her. (Big feet!) Here's everything you ever wanted to know about Colleen Moore's Hollywood living arrangements: http://paradiseleased.wordpress.com/...t-pierre-road/ Get a load of the hideous interior at the time it was on the market in 2012. |

(they started as Lyon, McKinney & Smith c. 1902 and reorganized as B-S in 1921) merged, in 1933 along with Goodan-Jenkins and the Los Angeles Furniture Co. into the Los Angeles Furniture Co. but Birch-Smith continued to run its storage co. seperately (So Cal Music Co. became the new tenant of their building at 737-741 Hill). |

When you stumble upon a thread that's been around it takes awhile to get through it! (And I'm not in a hurry!) I have been reading some current pages while making my way through all the rest! I'm still in the 240's! Cheers! |
