SHoP has done a fantastic job IMO with the designs for both 111 57th and 9 Dekalb both of which are additions to historic properties. If I were looking for an architect for this or the Reid Murdoch building addition they would have been on the top of the list.

111 57th is the other one I was thinking of would be perfect. That terra cotta and bronze :slob:

Hoping this trend of more color and different materials continues. A personal favorite of mine I’m hoping to see more of in Chicago (though not really appropriate for the Tribune site) is that golden-red rusting Corten steel, like at the gorgeous new manufacturing facility for Trumpf in the suburbs off of I-90.

I knew of 111 57th. These guys may be my new favorite architects right now. Great style.

Take this massing with a huge grain of salt. By the time official renders come out (which wont be for a while) I'm sure the design will have changed a bit.

I think that's blowing my mind more than this amazing render.

that kind of design would be easy to support. I don't think anyone wants something that blatantly apes the Trib Tower.

I'll reserve my judgement for the official design, but I would hate to see S&G resort to a pastiche of the historical towers on the avenue as some sort of requisite homage; you can't discreetly respect them at 1,400 feet. Though, I'm happy to avoid a Central Park Tower situation here (even if that illustration is not coincidentally like the main tower segment of which).

I would rather it touch down as delicately as possible into the local scene, better to defer to the masonry classics in its presence. A soaring, ethereal pin would settle in so nicely among the substantial, sturdy towers already crowding the area. An obelisk form a la Hancock but with an even svelter profile and a crystalline glass facade would be choice.

It kind of reminds me more of this Eliel Saarinen design for Tribune Tower than of the actual design.... That's not a bad thing.

Nice, exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for. As always though, it will be all about the details and materials. Can't wait to see real renderings.

Another interesting note is that this will be almost completely visible from top to bottom from the Michigan Ave Bridge due to Pioneer Court. Should be quite an impressive area once this and Vista are both complete. Supertalls in all directions, exactly how the nexus of Chicago should be framed.

It never had funding, only a painter who somehow made like $200 million that started burning a hole in his pocket so he blew it all burning a hold in the ground.

Just noticed that Adrian Smith did the design for the Thompson Center sale proposal. It also has a crown, for what it's worth.

Im loving that orange color in parcel 1of LSE. I would like to see that color more as an Optima 3 at the NW corner of Adams and Columbus though.
