Also, once I have some time (hopefully this weekend), I'm going to begin documenting development occurring in unexpected places--namely North and West Philly. I've been meaning to show y'all all of the market-rate development occurring north of Cecil B. Moore for a while now, and all of the development I saw happening in East Parkside has moved me to finally do it.

It's amazing that we can get such a development in a place like 10th and Girard but have trouble building much besides townhouses in many denser/more developed areas of the City.

If they actually get Wawa as an anchor tenant in that thing it'll be a real coup for the area. That whole stretch of Girard, like similar stretches of Spring Garden and Washington, is also quite obviously severely underdeveloped, and I imagine the ongoing infill of North Broad will help push along redevelopment projects there.

Also that PCC car in the '80s livery is cute. There was a time when SEPTA's graphic design department was competent, you know.

FWIW the SLVs aren’t that bad.

Walked by this the other day. Google street view says it's been up for quite some time, but this lot across the Disney Hole is available for development. Was not in 2011. https://imageshack.us/i/pndjikLEj

It's image shack, which is what I've always used. Not sure what the issue is.

If you’re referring to the lot across 8th St from the Disney Hole, I’ve often wondered what should go there.

Theoretically they should max out the height of the building due to its proximity to massive amounts of transit, but I doubt we’ll see that.

I like to see something happen at the 1301 Market St site since that has been on the radar for a couple of years now.

We need anchor tenants. I hope that there are serious talks with an anchor tenant at the first SY building and that it breaks the ice with some more moves into Philly.

That whole area (Chestnut between 7th and 9th) has so many lots and old parking garages that could be redeveloped into highrise residential/offices.

Green is sites currently under construction (Jeweler's Row Tower).

Yellow is proposed / in the permitting process (Walnut Street Theater Expansion, 711 Chestnut Residential, Overbuild on 742 Sansom, Brandywine parking garage on Market)

Red is no plans announced but would be great (Jefferson Parking area, 8th and Market, Lot across from 8th, dingy old parking garage at 8th and Chestnut)

Dumb question. Why is it called the Disney Hole? Always wondered.

Wikipedia:

DisneyQuest was a chain of indoor interactive theme parks in the United States operated by the Disney Regional Entertainment subsidiary of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

The DisneyQuest project was designed as a way for the Disney brand to reach populations that may not have the chance to travel to its various theme park destinations.[5] It was meant to target large cities and urban areas. Had the project continued, Disney had plans to construct locations in many major cities in the United States, like Philadelphia and Baltimore. However, only two locations were built; one in Walt Disney World and a much shorter-lived one in Chicago.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisneyQuest

They got as far as digging out the parking lot where Gimbels had once stood, but Disney deep-sixed the entire concept before construction began. The excavation remained for several years.

Fascinating. Thank you!

As promised, here are some pics of development happening in less covered places! I did a shorter tour today, but I hope to conduct longer tours when I have less running around to do! Today, I focused on the area surrounding the Susquehanna-Dauphin stop on the BSL.

2100 block of N. 15th Street (I'm assuming that it will be affordable housing due to the lack of basements):

The 2200 block of North Broad is ablaze with new construction, and there's more on the way!

Next up, I'm hoping to cover developments in West Parkside (I had pics, but accidentally dropped my phone while in Phoenix last week) or along N. 5th Street between Cecil B. Moore and Lehigh Avenue!

edit: nevermind, I was looking at the intersection the wrong way.
That's pretty great though! I used to live around there on 12th St for a few years. I liked it around there, and I'm happy to see some infill

Thank you for adding a cornice developer/architect!
