Agreed although to be fair the tech (urban maglev) is still in use and continues to some extent mostly in China which as you know seems obsessed with maglev tech as a point of national and global pride and more power to em!

https://transportsystemboegl.com/en/

My dream tech scenario would match the Boring Company tunnel tech and diameter of 12' standard tubes with maglev automated trains like the Bogl system to create 24-7 urban subway networks that would run every 90 seconds... is it feasible? Of course! Even at that diameter because that's roughly the size of deep level London tubes and that network is virtually the gold standard for metro design in real world conditions!

Israeli all-electric plane maker readies for 1st flight, new ‘age of aviation’

https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel...e-of-aviation/

.....

- Two years after unveiling, to much fanfare, a prototype for the first known all-electric airplane at the Paris Air Show in 2019, Israeli-American company Eviation Aircraft is preparing for the plane’s first test flight to usher in a “new age of aviation,” according to founder and CEO Omer Bar-Yohay. — The Alice was originally conceived as a small, nine-passenger, fully electric commuter aircraft manned by a single pilot that would make regional trips as accessible as a train ride, but at a lower cost and with better service, according to the company. With a payload of 2,500 pounds (1.1 tons) and a range of 440 nautical miles (815 kilometers), the Alice would be available for passengers to book a ride by app for popular short-haul routes say, San Jose to San Diego, London to Prague, and Paris to Toulouse. It’s a potential experience Bar-Yohay has coined an “Uber in the sky.”

The rapid delivery and reach of the AVE network for an advanced economy is a massive achievement. I enjoyed my experience on the network, but there are lingering doubts over AVE’s viability, particularly around the persistently low ridership, which reached 22.37mn just before Covid-19. That might sound impressive compared to Amtrak ridership, but when accounting for population, AVE has far lower ridership levels than equivalent HSR and non-HSR intercity networks in other European states. Factor in the cost and maintenance of the network and the arithmetic looks questionable.

^ pretty pretty pretty good

homebucket Oct 12, 2021 7:37 PM

Great project. We need to build more of these.

SFBruin Oct 13, 2021 4:29 PM

This is probably a dumb question, but: Do the wildlife know to take the bridge?

Or, do they just ignore it unless they're nearby to it?

Busy Bee Oct 13, 2021 4:48 PM

From what the animals tell me... yes.

SFBruin Oct 13, 2021 6:10 PM

Fair enough. I knew it was a dumb question lol. :)

Nouvellecosse Oct 13, 2021 6:48 PM

I assume that when an animal wants to travel in a particular direction and encounters an obstacle like a highway, they'll probably travel along side it for awhile looking for a crossing so animals within a certain range would be "funneled" into the crossing. This is basically the same as what would happen with a river, where they'd travel along the bank until they found a narrow or shallow section.

Im just messing with you... Animals cant talk.

Yes wildlife will absolitely cross. Im sure there is plenty of scientific research showing how utilized they are. I know these are more common in Europe and have been around for decades. I know the California HSR project is building agricultural/wildlife undercrossings along most of the planned embankment.

More airlines are choosing single-aisle jets for flights from North America to Europe — see the full evolution of jet-powered transatlantic flying

Widebody vs narrowbody aircraft Boeing, Airbus

Widebody aircraft have historically dominated the transatlantic market due to their high capacity and low costs.

With the rise of long-range narrowbodies, many airlines are opting to put single-aisle jets on flights across the pond.

Narrowbody jets are preferable for their high efficiency and profitability for low-demand city pairs.

Update on construction progress of the Atlanta Beltline. A fairly large portion of the multi-use trail has now been complete (in green on the map) with several major expansions under construction or in design. Light rail on the eastside is in design phases and is funded through an approved tax.

If only the area leaders had the foresight to realize the best use of a former railroad belt line is a future Marta heavy rail circle line. Is there any provision at all in this program that provides part of the right-of-way for a potential mass transit purpose outside of the short streetcar route?

Maybe on the west side there may be an expansion of heavy rail within a wider corridor, but not anywhere else. At best, a streetcar or light rail line is likely to maintain slower speeds of the trains. The last thing anyone would want is a heavy rail train going 60 mph or faster immediately next to a pedestrian train with people walking at most 5 mph.
