My dream tech scenario would match the Boring Company tunnel tech and diameter of 12' standard tubes with maglev automated trains like the Bogl system to create 24-7 urban subway networks that would run every 90 seconds... is it feasible? Of course! Even at that diameter because that's roughly the size of deep level London tubes and that network is virtually the gold standard for metro design in real world conditions!

The rapid delivery and reach of the AVE network for an advanced economy is a massive achievement. I enjoyed my experience on the network, but there are lingering doubts over AVE’s viability, particularly around the persistently low ridership, which reached 22.37mn just before Covid-19. That might sound impressive compared to Amtrak ridership, but when accounting for population, AVE has far lower ridership levels than equivalent HSR and non-HSR intercity networks in other European states. Factor in the cost and maintenance of the network and the arithmetic looks questionable.

I assume that when an animal wants to travel in a particular direction and encounters an obstacle like a highway, they'll probably travel along side it for awhile looking for a crossing so animals within a certain range would be "funneled" into the crossing. This is basically the same as what would happen with a river, where they'd travel along the bank until they found a narrow or shallow section.

Yes wildlife will absolitely cross. Im sure there is plenty of scientific research showing how utilized they are. I know these are more common in Europe and have been around for decades. I know the California HSR project is building agricultural/wildlife undercrossings along most of the planned embankment.

Update on construction progress of the Atlanta Beltline. A fairly large portion of the multi-use trail has now been complete (in green on the map) with several major expansions under construction or in design. Light rail on the eastside is in design phases and is funded through an approved tax.

If only the area leaders had the foresight to realize the best use of a former railroad belt line is a future Marta heavy rail circle line. Is there any provision at all in this program that provides part of the right-of-way for a potential mass transit purpose outside of the short streetcar route?

Maybe on the west side there may be an expansion of heavy rail within a wider corridor, but not anywhere else. At best, a streetcar or light rail line is likely to maintain slower speeds of the trains. The last thing anyone would want is a heavy rail train going 60 mph or faster immediately next to a pedestrian train with people walking at most 5 mph. :shrug:
