Club Moon Over Miami

There's no such intersection. Was there a "Green Acres" thoroughfare that's since been vacated? 13333 is on an extra long block with what-must-once-have-been open land north of it across an alley. Maybe "Green Acres" was something else. The business card says one could "Ride". Horses need a lot of room. There's that "sparkling" pool too. This 1946 map of the Valley is too small for me to read. It may be too late anyway. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1...51816%2BPM.jpg google maps |

There was plenty of room for horses in 1947, although there's only a small building where the current 13333 Ventura Boulevard is located. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...entura1947.jpg Historic Aerials By 1952, the area to the north had really started to fill in. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...entura1952.jpg Historic Aerials |
Found this one on FB. It seems one of us may have been inquiring there. It's cleaner but clipped and names names.

Ancestry.com has entries for a Jennie Poll in Los Angeles, b. 1895 or 1893, but I'm not signed up so couldn't dig any deeper.

As for Sunset Strip scenes? I don't know if these will help, and I may not be too specific as I haven't seen these things at all recently, so don't hold me to anything, but: ...the film Man in the Vault has a car driving down Sunset Blvd. They pass the Mocambo nightclub. They also drive down to the Chateau Marmont Hotel and turn up Marmont Lane. Model Shop is a 1969 Jacques Demy film that I believe has some scenes filmed on the strip. So does Moment By Moment with Lily Tomlin. She does some shopping on the strip and also I believe she walks by or near Schwab's Drugstore. And, of course, John Travolta's name in this is "Strip"! Lol! Bugsy has the lead characters going to Ciro's, though I don't know if the outside shots were stock footage or created on a soundstage. I believe the credits of the TV series The Ugliest Girl in Town have shots on the strip near Horn Ave. and Holloway. A scene from a first season episode of Southland has a scene shot on Sunset Blvd. in front of the round building, now painted green, that was originally built for a plastic surgeon in 1967. See this NLA post: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=17775 There's an episode of The Andy Griffith Show where they go to Hollywood and drive down the strip showing various places. (I remember Dino's restaurant.) Are these the kinds of things you mean? |

Did (do?) these places really exist anywhere? I'd never heard of such a thing before. There are other L.A. locations in this film. Some scenes take place in a house that has an oil well next to it. |

I used to know a woman [Joanie] in 1972 who worked at an X-rated photo studio that was located in the Crossroads of the World building on Sunset Blvd.. They took photos of people who were interested in nude modeling and acting in X-rated films. They always gave the patrons wine and then took nude photos of them. They always had an endless supply of male and female models. Its Hollywood so there's no surprise there. I don't remember the name of the studio but the year was around 1972. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...psaixh2ddy.jpg HollywoodLocations |

http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...ckeyBoggs6.jpg MGM By 1973, the Melody Room had become Filthy McNasty's. It's now The Viper Room. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...etLarrabee.jpg hollywoodphotographs.com This is getting a little obscure, but another filming location used in 'Hickey & Boggs' is Miller Drive, just above Sunset Boulevard. You can just see the top of The Tiffany Theater (8534 W Sunset) as they drive up the hill. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...ckeyBoggs7.jpg MGM The theater opened in 1966, and was demolised in 2013. I had to go back to 2009 to get the Googlemobile across the street. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...anyTheater.jpg GSV |

It's very interesting that the site was home to a tent church at the turn of the century. __ Here is another unique 'California' bungalow with an unorthodox shape. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/128...673/F9xxYH.jpg Photograph by Michael Locke at https://www.flickr.com/photos/michae...e/12402894905/ Mr. Locke contemplates it's history, but finds no solid answers here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/michae...e/12402894905/ In this aerial you can see how the bungalow is placed at an angle on the southeast corner of Mar Vista Street and Milton Avenue in Whittier. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...537/EwOJSA.jpg google_earth below: A closer view, that clearly shows it's unique shape. Natural Rock Arch, Catalina Island
I don't know it and I can only find pix of the same era as yours.

I've seen photos of this but they elude me tonight. It may have been located where the Casinos were built in Avalon. :( |
I recently found this in an old file of mine...it appears to me a scene from a movie. (recognize it?)
I have it captioned as "looking down Hill Street toward Fourth." http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/673/ip4z5B.jpg 'mystery' scene I'm curious about the metal 'gate' in the foreground along the curb (bottom center). Does anyone know what this might be? __ |
We can't forget Arch Rock along the coastline north of Santa Monica near Topanga Canyon.
1880s? http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/538/LxummY.jpg http://www.kcet.org/updaily/socal_fo...ks-of-pch.html 1890s http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/537/YcdqPC.jpg http://www.kcet.org/updaily/socal_fo...ks-of-pch.html Eventually a dirt road traveled beneath it. (today that dirt road is Pacific Coast Highway) http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/673/v9qTwH.jpg http://www.kcet.org/updaily/socal_fo...ks-of-pch.html "The end came unceremoniously for Arch Rock on the night of March 24, 1906." "Exactly what happened is unclear, but the next morning the natural bridge that once spanned the arch's two columns was found crumbled on the ground. Initial reports blamed a rainstorm, but rumors later circulated that works crews constructing a railroad to Ventura had blasted the rock, performing their nefarious deed under the cloak of darkness because of public affection for the landmark. The railroad was never completed, but some of the grading work was later incorporated into the coast highway." This view was taken shortly after the Arch Rock collapse. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/xq90/661/Da0cVx.jpg http://www.kcet.org/updaily/socal_fo...ks-of-pch.html Today, the Rock Arch site is the location of the Chart House restaurant.
