Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!
:multibow::eeekk::whip::cheers::drunk::banger::rant::fireworks::drowning::swordfight::dancinghotdog::apple::dancingeggplant Now that's a construction start. Bring it on---bring it to the river! |
Nice. This looks to be a great tower....

One step closer to completing the river canyon!

there are only 2 people in the entire universe who can do that (Dylan & Mike), and they only get to it when they get to it. frustrating? hell yes. but it's just the way it is because of how the forum software is coded, or so i've been told. |
Thank you for the information!

Does Case have a monopoly on highrise foundations in Chicago? Seems like everybody uses them
|
That shore seems way too shallow to get a barge close enough to deliver equipment and material. Does that mean everything is getting delivered from the street entrance? Those lower streets are going to be a nightmare when the pour the mat floor. I wonder if thier allowed to use the turn around above the parking.

As a reminder... "Case will be installing 49 belled caissons and 14 rock caissons in this second phase of the Wolf Point development."

Has it been said how much of the park/plaza space will be constructed with this phase? I assume they will more or less draw a line either south or east from the corner of the parking garage structure currently sticking out—would be nice to get most of the public space in this phase though.

I'm surprised they aren't required to put runoff screens along the river. You'd think there would be all kinds of laws about muddy runoff from a construction site like this going straight into the water.
|
^^^ It's ok, those two cones will hold the machine back. Haha.
|
They put those rocks along the edge of the river at the same they did the rest of the wolf point west site right. So that whole thing is going to be an overhang riverwalk like it is at WPW now? I'm surprised they arent using piles to flatten and level out the edge of the river. But I i think.their going to use this same method down south on the Riverline shore. I suppose its cuz the shoreline is so shallow right?

Harry and solar thank you for the amazing pics. Solar what the heck is going on in that picture? Thats a tall pillar to pour into. Will those all line the base at that height before the floor gets poured. I dont even think 465's pillars are that tall. Thats going to be a massive lobby.

I don't know if they're happy with kayaks getting that close to the work site, but it looks like that's a great way to get an up close view.

Anyone hear anything yet about crane installation timeline?

Muddy water - more pressure to keep the walls from caving in down below where the sleeve reaches. ![]() Making sure it goes in just right ![]() The chains will hold the cage while the concrete is poured, and set. ![]() Aug 28 Case is wrapping up - sheet pile is arriving. (as BVic noted) ![]() |

I assume they will be using basically the same technique to build the river wall and river walk as they did for WPW? So we can probaly go back and look at those photos to see what we have to look forward to for this guy?

What a pile of sheet. Piles.

![]() Some assembly required ![]() ![]() Striking water ![]() ![]() All done - the gravel fill allows the caisson sleeve to be pulled and the area graded over for the next phase. ![]() |
Can someone elaborate on the last picture above? Has concrete been poured already for that caisson location, why are they back filling it?
|
The metal tube you see is a temporary liner that is reusable. They sink that liner into the ground, lower in a permanent galvanized spiral tube shell, then lower in a rebar cage and pour the concrete. After that's done, they fill the top of the cage with gravel and pull the temporary liner that you see. The reason they fill it with gravel is to temporarily bury the cage so equipment can drive over that spot again once the temp liner is out. I think it also probably fills in the gap between the temporary liner and the permanent shell so that there is less risk of settlement once the liner is out. You don't want your foundation tipping out of plumb when you pull that liner out.

Thank you for the education, and making it easily understandable for a simpleton like me. So essentially the mat is going to be poured several feet below the top of the temp. liner after all caisson work is completed?
Thanks again for the pics! |
