This is just about the best discussion thread I have EVER read online- and that goes back 30 years! I'm WAY behind- just finished page 140 a moment ago- but that's okay.

I didn't live in L.A. long, but the historical pics and other stuff here is simply fantastic. Thanks for many hours of fun reading this, and for many more hours ahead. I didn't have much to contribute yet (just some old LA radio pictures a while back) but I hope I get to do so again.

The generally accepted borders of “the Dell” are east of Cahuenga, north of Franklin, west of Argyle and south of the Hollywood Reservoir. It is fully encompassed by zip code 90068.
The neighborhood was established in the early 1920’s, and today is a mix of profesionals artists, families and even some famous faces. (The Dell has been home to The Rolling Stones, Minnie Driver, Marilyn Manson, Goldie Hawn, Eva Longoria Parker and Audrina Patridge.) With only about 1,000 residences, it’s easy to feel at home in this cozy community.

The Hollywood Dell got its name because it sits “in” hills that are just above popular Hollywood, and opposed to being on top of the hills. Meaning, you will have to drive down to get into the dell, and up to get out of it. The roads within the dell are mainly hilly and many homes are built on hillside lots.

Typical homes in the Hollywood Dell are single-family homes in Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture. (Take Sunset)

I had no idea the 'Hollywood Dell' was established in the 1920s.

for what its worth,we use to have boy scout meetings in the nearby rec center.this was before they built the new rec center at the site of the ppa.anyways,the last remaining thing that was left at the ppa were these artdeco light post,the stands were of concret and in shape of the entrance,they even had the lights still in the globes.I always thought they were cool and tried to hop the fence that surrounded the site but it was way too high.Sorry i just had to share,to a 13 y/o it was a cool piece of a past historical place.

Well, more like sitting on the ground today -- if you look at the rightmost window you'll see that the flaps are down.

BTW, flew Western a lot when working for Honeywell. Great airline.

This makes me wonder how the city skyline would have evolved had their been a river/lake with actual water year round. There might now be a concentration of river front skyscrapers Starting at 9th street.

Curtains and leg room! This has got to be first class! The good old days!:yes:
