Now I'm back home temporarily, so historic L.A., here I come!

Welcome back Johnny S! We missed you.

That said, I think it's great that you're posting them...the subject matter is still fascinating and many 'newcomers' here are unaware of posts that are nearly two years old! I have to admit I enjoyed seeing the photos again. :)

Not a problem. Thank YOU for understanding. Short of having a photographic memory and excellent search skills (I have neither), duplication is bound to happen.

Strangely enough, the photos do not look particularly pestiferous. The Lunch Room @ 450 could use for a spot of paint and a new table cloth or two, but the price is right. A hot shower seems like a good idea right now.

Not a bad guess, but the game has it listed as a Delage D8 S Poutout, made over in France in the late '30s. And for what it's worth, it's my favorite car in the game...voluptuous looks, good speed and silky smooth handling.

Is this too redundant? Or is it interesting all over again? -be honest. (I added a few new comments and questions to the original post)
Thank you 'Chuckaluck' for renewing my interest in the bubonic plague photos.

Was sitting in my Columbus, Ohio hotel room saying "Wow!" to the walls as I scrolled through them. Nice. I tried to get a Google Street View of the above scene but it looks like that section of Mulholland was realigned, and as usual all the homes, walls, and trees now block 90% of the views.

I'll have to go back and check the source where you found these. Is there much more good stuff on that site?

And I noticed that e_r has been posting images from a Library Of Congress site. Sounds like that might be another good source, will have to check that out too.

Loads of great material here lately! Sometimes this thread moves so fast, it's hard to respond to everything of interest, everything that I might like to. But thanks, and keep up the good work everyone.

An excellent question! Perhaps cars were allowed to go in one direction in the morning, and the other in the evening. ;)

You've got me convinced to get it too. Question, though, can you really just wander through the game without playing? Won't someone shoot you sooner or later and spoil the fun??

And I'd like to second your thanks to the guys who've been driving this thread. I've been learning tons of interesting and valuable information every day when I visit, so I really, really appreciate it. :)

Unfamiliar with the video game, I jumped the gun when looking at the still you posted and assumed it was a composite of several vehicles, including the Delage with a handful of computer-enhanced artistic license thrown in for good measure. By happenstance, prior to your post, I just happened upon a picture of the Peter Stengel design. Without confusing the two designs, the B&W Stengel felt like it too, belonged in the cyber-noir world.

I have since watched a few impressive snippets of the game on Utube. Only thing missing is the smell of smoke, stale beer and perfume, and a shovel full of smog. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROQ4_jPLtU8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&fe...&v=kM4dOiA0G1o

Remnants of a plank road exist in Imperial County. Didn't know about San Bernardino. The conundrum created by two opposing vehicles on a single lane highway is usually resolved by a turn out.

"Engineers abandoned the double-track plan and designed a roadway of wooden cross ties laid to a width of 8 feet with double-width turnouts every-1,000 feet." http://www.desertusa.com/sandhills/plankrd.html

Just staying on the road without having to deal with oncoming traffic must have been a source of much merriment during a sandstorm.:(

Notice the fence on either side...at least someone has recognized the historical value of this old plank road.

OK... but believe me, no one was worrying that you may have confused the two designs...

Apology in advance if this is a duplication. I believe I have seen similar pictures on the forum, but unable to locate these using the search function.

L.A. Noire visions

OMG. Thanks to all you guys and this great forum I've been reading for the past two months, I went out last night to Fry's and bought my first ever PC Video Game, L.A. Noire. Now I have to beef up my RAM and Video card since I am not usually a gamer. It LOOKS great, though. and during my first case, I ended up at a suspect's house just above this bridge on 2nd Street. So just for fun, I ran down the stairs on the left and turned INTO the trolley tunnel and ran all the way to the other side. SO REALISTIC, even inside the tunnel. These guys think of everything!

Me too. Loving the game too. Can anyone advise me on how to get the great screen shots from the game? I thought I tried Print Screen but didn't work since it's in its own full-screen resolution.
