Beaudry, do you have an aerial photo from this time frame that shows N. Grand between Temple and Sunset? Thanks in advance. |
Noir Noir, I really enjoyed your excellent post on the Punk residences of the late 1970s and early 80s.
I've read through parts of Pleasant Grehman's blog and thought it was very interesting. photo booth pics [Pleasant Grehman] "At the Hollywood Boulevard Woolworth's photo booth around the corner from The Masque 1977." https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/3...924/Y71Fsp.jpghttps://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/3...923/8KeQEG.jpg PLEASANTGREHMAN I believe the photo booth is the one you see in this Matt Sweeney phootgraph. ( or an earlier photo booth in the same location) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/EQVlnO.jpg The Atlantic "Photo booth on Hollywood Boulevard at Whitley in front of the Walgreens by Fredrick's of Hollywood." (do you recognize what kind of tree odinthor?) It looks fairly common but I like it. GW was seen on the block the week it went missing. https://imageshack.com/a/img924/5658/zoYd8h.gif GIPHY __ |
'mystery' location #1
I found this pic last week with a group of photographs on ebay. I believe the photo was taken to show the damage on the side of the vehicle. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/hjG7i7.jpg NO LONGER LISTED At first I thought that was a 20th Century Fox sign down the street but now I'm not so sure. the group of photos were labeled like this. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/MbqhLW.jpg __ |
'mystery' location #2
This photograph looks vaguely familiar...but I still believe it's new to nla. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/ADsVeW.jpg same label https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/MbqhLW.jpg The other photographs in the group are of firemen visiting radio stations. (those pics are on my computer in Indiana) I'm in Illinois. __ |

With the Frontenac Apartments (212 South Grand) in the background, this was probably taken in the parking lot of Fire Station No 3 at 217 South Hill Street. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...StationNo3.jpg www.lafire.com |

It appears that the most likely candidate for the building where the women are on the roof would be the Hans Dreier building on the Paramount lot. It was built in 1929 and appears to have a flat roof. It is adjacent (or attached to Stage 9 and kitty-corner across from the carpentry shop which would have had the flue. The photo is probably flipped since the carpenters shop would actually be to the right of roof of the Dreier building rather than the other side. Someone who has worked on the Paramount lot, correct me if I'm wrong, and let me know if the Dreier building actually has a flat roof. I hope it was winter when the picture was taken since it would have been really hot on that roof in summer in the middle of the day!! |

FWIW, 1947 permit for the brick structure Pride currently occupies (5851) indicates it was intended for use as retail stores and "No food or beverages to be sold in stores." Apparently prior to '47 it was unimproved. (Another view below.) We have discussed Station 61, Stooges and nearby locations several times. See e.g., http://skyscraperpage.com/forum/show...postcount=7492 and http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=34012 HossC provided one view toward the east and a second of the intersection of Third St. and La Brea. Regarding the latter, the pictured 76 Station is long gone, but the round structure is still with us and GW observed that it had been a target of the Monkey Bandit in '32. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=34015 Note imposing structure to the left. (Presumably the Los Angeles Junior Seminary http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=31561, http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...4.jpg~original. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...=1525739034172 We've also seen another west view of Station 61 from what was once the ABC Market at 5800 W Third Street (Currently the Wine Hotel). New construction permit suggests that structure dates from 1932. This picture was obviously taken well before the post '47 construction of the brick building. :previous: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...ostcount=34015 Wine Hotel https://dco2rw8nil4x7.cloudfront.net...2/cwpMFNIo.jpghttps://dco2rw8nil4x7.cloudfront.net...2/cwpMFNIo.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img855/1499/rlqo.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img850/9352/z6hp.jpg Returning to the image in front of the Station, looking to the (left) south side of the street is a big dark structure, that would have clearly predated Park La Brea. CD search has not yet revealed anything about that structure. Haven't tried aerial views, yet. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/hjG7i7.jpg |
:previous: I was wondering about the structure on the far left as well Tourmaline. It looks really interesting...almost barn-like.
