I wonder if the Top Ten building could be the location. The numbering changes here...building on left is 352 while the Top Ten Building is 372-376.

100 Years Ago Today

There were those gunning for Bunker Hill way before the Community Redevelopment Agency... As I pass time in NYC during the hurricane...power still on... I discovered that the Los Angeles Times had this to say about the epicenter of noir on October 29, 1912:

I was at Helms on Saturday furniture shopping.
At Buttercup, there was a great divide between my perception of the cost of the furniture and the reality. For example, a nice fabric-covered chair looked like $500 but had a price tag of $1,700! Everything I encountered seemed to be 2-4x as expensive as I believed. I even encountered a small $20-value throw pillow with a $119 price tag.
I made no purchases. :(

:previous: When I was in my early twenties I took the bus from L.A. To Chicago. It was the most horrendous three days of my life. There were passengers with barking dogs in their bags....there was a blind lady that groped passengers with squished hotdogs between her fingers...and there were seemingly endless stops in the middle of the night at cockroach infested cafes. To stunt the misery I took an extra dose of sleep-aids that gave me diarrhea for the last day and a half. My parents didn't recognize me when they picked me up in Illinois.
When in doubt FLY FLY FLY FLY!

I especially like this 'kiosk' with Venice events.
It mentions several venues that we've covered here on 'noirish Los Angeles'..most recently the Venice Aquarium.

They were high. That was the point. Also hot. The air conditioning of the day couldn't keep up with what was basically a greenhouse on wheels.

My father was Chief Special Agent and General Claims Agent for the Western Pacific RR, which ran Vista Domes on the California Zephyr through the Feather River Canyon. Would come home from work regularly in a grumpy mood, "another !@#$% female in high heels fell down the stairs in the dome car."

Cheers,

Earl
