I've always like Cuomo but he's really done an outstanding job since this all started.

So...do something effective in the NY area, but wait for other areas to get just as bad before doing the same?

The numbers are surging in a bunch of states, and those are just the cases we know. Mild responses aren't going to work.

Figure a low-incidence state might have 100-200 known cases per million, and some multiple of that in unknown cases. Conservatively, let's say 400 per million. How many of those people are out spreading the virus, going to the supermarket, gas station, maybe even their job? Low is still big numbers.

Pedestrian, ypu are a doctor. I am reading good things about Gilead's drug remdesivir, which has apparently helped some patients in the newspaper articles I've read. Waiting on the research articles. Chloroquin doesn't seem to work according to one article I read, but it is too early to say for sure. Also, some are pushing megadoses of Vit C, and it is even given in I.V.s to patients with covid as an experimental treatment in a few hospitals. Some anecdotal reports say it helps. The vaccine is probably a year off, although the Moderna one is in trials. Probably the beast will keep mutating like cold & flu viruses, so they'll probably have to create a new version every year if it comes back seasonally. Other companies are trying to gather antibodies from recovered patients and maybe mass produce them. Any thoughts? I have a few shares of Gilead and a few other companies.

Remdesivir may work but I'd wait for trials before putting much faith in it. There are a couple of other antivirals undergoing trials: Galidesivir, favilavir and some others. The faith in hydroxychloroquine (not so much chloroquine) is still anecdotal but a lot of people have it and the thing about this drug is it's cheap, common and fairly harmless.

I'm not a believer in Vitamin C--reminds me too much of the Linus Pauling days when Vit. C was thought a miracle cure.

One notion my brain won't let go of and that terrifies me about returning to San Francisco is the image of being in an elevator with someone who coughs. I don't quite share your view--the actions he's taken may have been mostly very good but a little too much blaming and complaining (i.e. politics) to suit me.

And speaking of politics, there is talk of inserting him onto the ticket as the Democratic candidate as opposed to Biden (whose capability in a situation like this is rather dubious to say the least--but that is probably now how he would be judged). Perhaps Cuomo is encouraging such talk and playing to it.

See’s Candies, a California chocolate institution, is suspending production because of the coronavirus.

It’s only the second time in See’s 99-year history that production has been interrupted, the first being when it was halted due to rationing during World War II.

On Nextdoor in San Francisco, people who are "distancing" at home but who normally are at work during the day when construction is going on are now complaining about the noise.

I thought about calling Warren Buffet and giving him H*ll.

I use stairs far more than the elevator at my condo...stairs up, elevator down (old knees), in the Before Time at least. We don't really have security issues with the stair...it's a fob to get in the alley door, then an actual key to get to the stair.

And now, with the exercise room closed, a few trips up the stairs at 17 floors each makes a decent workout (elevator down, two-person max, and sanitizing hands).
