It's made of steel and if they were smart those windows are made of Lexan. If that's the case, no one's getting in.

Nonsense. All public art is subject to vandalism and short of not having it, or building 10 foot walls around it, you can’t protect it if someone wants to vandalize it. If you can provide evidence of some special study done about susceptibility to vandalism of this particular piece of art compared to other cases I’d love to see it. Anyway, in the interests of staying positive, I like it and I predict a lot of people will be getting photos of themselves tipping the car over.

This is public art with "windows", and presumably an enclosed space within.

Of course they would be concerned with vandalism. They would be pretty naive not to be.

I think some of you are just being a tad over sensitive.

Construction Cranes
 

Does anyone know how many tower construction cranes are up in the downtown area? I count five: Art District at UW, Inuit Art Centre, Sutton Place x 2, and 300 Main. I am probably missing a few (but can't confirm as I am not there). It certainly seems like an unprecedented number and pretty exciting to see.

That’s correct for tower cranes, there are smaller cranes up for RRC innovation centre, the tower on Stradbrook and I think the James ave pump house has a crane.

really? in the winter when ur trying to get from main st to portage ave to catch a bus... it makes a hug diff to get outa the wind through it

I walk around that corner to catch my bus in winter and never go through the arcade. It's extra work to go out of your way in and out of it, and there's often windrifts at the entrances. It "protects" like 30 ft of walking – get it outta here!

A prime example of that is the statue of David in Florence. It was vandalized and has people's initials carved into it before it was moved to its more secure current location.

In terms of the 1919 strike monument I think it is reasonable to be asking if there is a budget and plan for annual upkeep and maintenance. Being outdoors in Winnipeg it will suffer from the elements even if vandalism does not happen.

It's at 160 Niakwa Road... I believe it was built by the same people that built Fort Garry Place

"The Castle on the Seine" - 160 Niakwa Rd. Shorter but similar is 1830 Addis Avenue W in West St Paul, and of course Fort Garry Place.
