Here are a few items/photographs from a family album that was previously listed on eBay. (the majority of the pages were not Los Angeles) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...923/kWA5cd.jpg The family name, as you'll soon see, is Walton and the family lived at 2337 Thompson Street, Los Angeles. Here's their home. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/1ayizZ.jpg eBay https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/RwnpNE.jpg And this. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...922/WeQZaz.jpg Celebrating 25 years of marriage. . .in 1915! Mr. Charles S. Watson (the S looks like a D) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...923/P0srvc.jpg Hmmm, Secretary of what? Here's the missus and her calling card. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/b7gUt6.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/3...923/nnLqXp.jpg The problem is . . .I can't find a Thompson Street in Los Angeles proper. There is one in Long Beach but it's in an industrial area. . .and there's one in Help! . |

re: lion statues at Castle Sans Souci
Thank you for the leads! I'm going to explore them. It looks like lions holding shields has been somewhat common over the centuries.

Larry Reed Sports Cars
Larry Reed Sports Cars had locations in Westchester and Torrance that survived, I believe until around 1980. I'm thinking this is Westchester based on nothing more than a hunch and a belief that Westchester location was around earlier and the Triumph TR3 was produced from 1955 to 1962.

In the obituary for Charles Strong Walton, you might have noticed that one of the pallbearers was J. Gregg Layne, which might have rung a bell with you as it did with me.
Layne was a local historian who did his share of not only writing but also collecting photos. Find-a-Grave has a good quick overview of him: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...ph-gregg-layne |

Here's a quaint Los Angeles home from the turn of the last century. Seller's description:.."Antique Cabinet Photo 1906 CALIFORNIA LOS ANGELES FAMILY HOUSE" https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/3Xk1vh.jpg eBay Raymond, Dexter & Annie..1906 And there's more information on the back. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/RoBps3.jpg For search purposes: 830 East Jefferson St. Los Angeles....1906 my first house W. R. Lamb :fruit: And here is. .drumroll. . . .a closer look. :) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/nBsHdl.jpg Hmm, what to you think is in front of the boy. . .a hockey stick? .....(wasn't there a game back then where you chased a hoop with a stick) . .or am I seeing things? . |

Mystery store. .mystery location. Seller's description:Antique 1903 Cabinet Card Photo GROCERY STORE LOS ANGELES https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/JGDTNa.jpg eBay If you look closely there is something written below the photograph but it's very difficult to read. I enlarged it and tried to adjust the contrast to no avail. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/9LaXv6.jpg detail Still can't read it but I think I see the 1903. And there's a stamp on the back. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/DByNoX.jpg Thins is probably the photographer's stamp. (as opposed to the store's stamp) I enlarged the photo for a closer look. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/922/dqn53S.png Christmas time? That would explain the levitating trees. ..................................I know they're not levitating but the ones in the back (on the right) look like they're levitating. . |

The houses were still standing at 830 E Jefferson Boulevard until around 2019/20, but now there's sadly just an empty lot. Their final years show them looking rather run down, but I think they still looked good in the 2009 image below. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...EJefferson.jpg GSV |

:previous: The houses survived for a hundred years or more (in this case, more than a hundred years) :( . . . . and then poof, they're gone. Thanks Hoss . |

Meantime, the Nicholls-Hammell-Loomis Co. was located at 1128-1140 S. San Pedro St., and their line was Fuels and Feed. |

According to their father's obituary in the Meriden, CT, Daily Journal of Jan 25, 1943, Wilbur Raymond Lamb had three brothers, one of whom was Dexter. So..."Raymond" in the picture is Wilbur Raymond Lamb Jr, Dexter is his uncle, and Annie is his mother--WR Sr's wife.... https://i.postimg.cc/bJsvxs5H/lambobit2-bmp.jpg |

:previous:... That's an excellent article, Mackerm. ...Thanks for the link. . . .and just in time because I have a very interesting - mystery - cabinet card....Unfortunately the seller's description is very vague. "Antique Cabinet Card Photo CIGAR STORE" . .but it's quite possible the store is in Los Angeles because the eBay seller is the same seller who listed the Los Angeles cabinet cards that I posted yesterday. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/Pp3UhX.jpg eBay (no longer listed) Let's take a closer look to see if we can glean some clues. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/924/tRmari.jpg First of all, I see Carlson Hand Laundry on the glass case. . . .and there was a Carlson Hand Laundry in Los Angeles at the time. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/oLKE06.jpg But the cigar shop is only a drop-off location (AGENCY) so I doubt it is the 710 W. 3rd. St. location. But WAIT, there's more! The cigar store appears to be at the entrance to a large office building and if you look above the door there are more tantalizing clues. Let's take a closer look at that. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/LtPSvp.jpg Hmmm. . .I see. .um. .NGE BUILDING and below that I see 3?21. Get busy minions! :superwhip . |
