I believe so. Photo looks north on Market St., poles for trolley wire curve in the distance to follow Florence Ave. northeast. This rail line originally was the L.A. & Redondo Inglewood Division, later became LARy's 5 Line (Eagle Rock - Hawthorne).

1941 Los Angeles street scenes

https://youtu.be/OiShtKv43hg

Here's 10 Min. of Los Angeles/Hollywood streets. Some sharped eyed people have nailed this as 1941 but the title says 1930s which appears to be a bit off.

Movie signs etc., denote this as 1941 era. So its just before entry into WW II.

There's a current picture of them in an article about their new restaurant at OUTLOOK.

At least I think it's them.

riichkay, I don't want you to think we're ignoring your excellent post. We saw (and if I remember correctly, discussed) the photograph a few years ago on NLA.

But you know what: I haven't been able to locate the older post(s) so it's good you posted the photographs again. :)

No problem e_r....as mentioned I ran a search, found quite a few of the Maynard Parker photos but not the subject building...but I have no doubt your recollection is correct...

Not only do we get a glimpse of the Wilshire Brown Derby we can also see The Bounty in the Gaylord Apartment Building.
And as most everyone here knows, The Bounty is still in business! ...Go Here to see how it looks today. (the same; except for a tree blocking the view)

Stay with me here folks. ...There's going to be a mystery location at the end of my post.

Well one thing led to another & I happened upon The Bounty in the opening credits of an episode of The Fugitive, (1963-1967).

I had no idea Crown International Pictures was located on Wilshire Blvd.,. .not only that. . .the building doesn't look familiar to me at all.

So is 'oldshowbiz' correct? Was Crown International Picture Corps. located on Wilshire Blvd?.....If so, where

Another RPPC from the Ron Lerch collection on eBay. Unless there's a backstory, a small plane crashing in the ocean is hardly noirish but as close as it gets in this collection.

While 8701 Wilshire matches the posted image, CIP (and its logo) was also located at 292 S. La Cienega Blvd. (See address toward bottom of poster.)

I was wondering if anyone might be able to assist me finding record (an address, if possible) of a pool hall on Heliotrope called the Crooked Cue? Was apparently defunct at some point before 1982 and turned into a rehearsal studio.

I've not been able to find any record of it, though I did find a Blevins Billiards at 665 Heliotrope in 1973 (which might be correct) and a Crooked Stick Pool Hall all the way over on 4807 Central Ave, which I don't think is the right one.

Apparently the phone number for the address was 662-6982, active well into 1985. I'm fairly sure it was just off Melrose Avenue.

Any help would be much appreciated!

mystery fire.

"1973 Press Photo: Los Angeles, California Apartment Building Swept by Fire."

Does anyone recognize this apartment building?

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/3jJQMY.jpg
eBay

Luckily, there is a sign in front of the building.

This sign.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/zJQyg1.jpg

I believe the large word is "Apartment" but the words above it are too fuzzy (and small) to read.

The newspaper clipping on the back isn't any help.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/aSlvJd.jpg

I don't know why 1967 was written in ink when the actual fire was in 1973.

Currently on eBay

mystery train wreck.

"Original Photograph City Of Los Angeles TRAIN WRECK Engine Scene Of Accident."

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/Gz40L8.jpg

Of course the crash could have happened anywhere along the route but the landscape sure looks like California.

I'm especially intrigue by this part of the wreck.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/VJH86Z.jpg

It appears to be the engine of the 'City of Los Angeles' but it's facing the wrong way.

And finally, here's a closer look at the Bonds and Stamps rail car.

https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/RvcK0N.jpg

I wonder how soon after the crash the photograph was taken.

UP City of Los Angeles Wreck

Cliff's Notes: The wreck occurred on November 12, 1951 at a siding called Wyutah which, as you might surmise, was near the Utah-Wyoming border. One passenger train traveling at 77 mph rear-ended another traveling at 2 mph, killing 11 pasengers and six crew members. The accident occurred in blizzard conditions.

Much more detail and discussion and a link to the full ICC accident report can be found in the Trains Magazine comments thread here: http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/p/18356/265669.aspx
