Garfield is improving. I bought six cottages 11st and garfield back in 2009 and thought i made a mistake. But, after totally restoring them, i have 6 great tennants, all professionals (artist, professor, travel agent, manager) who love living downtown. I since have bought a house 8st and garfield to live in. Lots of foot traffic. every saturday morning, people from core fitness are either sprinting or moving tractor tires around! No problems in the year and 1/2 since in lived there. Granted, the more u get towards 16st and van buren it gets a little rougher. Those areas are improving with people still buying and fixing up homes.

A Phoenix Olympics? That's hilarious! Let's look at the reasons why it will not happen in our lifetime.
-The fucking heat -Our crazy, right-wing state government and ambassadors of yikes! Sherriff Shmo, Brewer, McCain. Seriously, less crazy people in Pakistan. -Our state's anti-immigration policy, English-only, gun-packin' mentality. We can barely get Super Bowls! -We're not a world-class city. Atlanta (which hosted before) barely qualifies. -The State of Arizona picking up costs to subsidize an Olympics filled with socialists, communists and people of color? (Call Mitt) -One rail line does not constitute a decent public transportation system -Did I mention the fucking heat? Believe it or not, I love this city in spite of it's nature, but just think of our chances? Nil. |
Found this video today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=fcR9VeuEr-0 It would be pretty awesome if Phoenix became a Solar Power center. The video was done for the Huffington Post Mayor Challenge: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/0...#slide=2124385 |
if anyone is delusional enough to believe phoenix is an olympic caliber city, you need to be sent to an asylum.

I've been downtown since '04 and have heard of two shootings, both stemming from bar fights, one murder, and a cop involved shooting.
Pretty quiet neighborhood, and trust me I used to put myself in a lot of dumb situations. |
I know DT is safe. The lack of murders has to do with the lack of and dispersal of the population. Population dot density map shows this.
The term I used, sketchy, is somewhat vague I guess. I wasn't referring to violent crimes. Very few residents of Alta, Roosevelt Point, 44monroe, Portland Place are gonna take Fido and wife for a nice stroll through Garfield after dinner. This is what I was getting at. They're confined between the 7s and north of the tracks. |

If there's one thing the conservative State of Arizona is happy to fund with tax payer money, its sports. Quote:
It doesn't. But 10-12 years from now, especially if an Olympic bid were creating a deadline, the system could be wildly different. Quote:
Do I think PHX will actual get the Olympics? No. But were any of those reasons really great ones? No. PHX (in a joint bid with Tempe especially, but all the Valley cities) ought to be pushing hard to get the Pan American Games though. Once the new Sun Devil Stadium is built, ASUs amateur athletics complex is filled out, and if USA basketball moves their HQ to Tempe like is rumored, this would be an ideal place for the Pan Am Games. The real biggest issue is 2024 would probably be too soon for PHX to host the Olympics. I can imagine us being ready for the Pan Am Games by that time, but the Olympics would likely have to wait until 2032 or so. Which is fine, PHX ought to toss its hat into the ring this time, and get its name out there. I doubt a US City wins anyhow, as the IOC has been in the mood of spreading the wealth lately (i.e. going to places it hasn't been ever or in a very long time). I'd imagine the Olympics in 2020 will be somewhere in Africa or the Middle East as those areas have never hosted. South Africa could host as they did a fine job w/ the World Cup of Soccer. If Africa misses out on 2020, then they'd really be a strong contender for 2024. |

Oh, I think we can host the Olympics alright. But I think you guys have the wrong games, after yesterday we should be trying for the Winter Olympics.

Phoenix may not be world class now, but if we ever want even have a chance to be world class, giving up without trying isn't going to help. |

Hello All,
Did you know old Denny's is on Camelback Rd & 16th St is being demolished. We didn't even know that. Why we haven't visit on the street for a long time. We are not quite sure who going to being build a new restaurant. I have no absolutely idea. |
yup drove by it last week and it was being demo'd.
My exact thought was "oh look they're tearing denny's down, ok now to go on with my life." |
Hi everyone, this is my first post but I have been visited your forum daily for the past 3 months.
Its a shame that its too hot here because I have always felt Phoenix would be perfect since it has almost every facility aside from housing and aquatics already built. As it has been mentioned, we have all the pro sports venues plus everything at ASU and Grand Canyon and like 10 spring training stadiums which would be perfect for sports no one cares about. Even Sun Devil Stadium looks like it could accommodate a track since the stands are a decent distance from the field. Even if the heat wasn't an issue it seems the US Olympic committee is intent on pushing LA, SF, NYC, and Chicago. I don't blame either since those cities have the most world wide recognition. |

I heard him talking about it on the Pros2Preps Radio Show with Brad Cesmat. Nothing is official, and Colangelo didn't mention Tempe by name, but he made some very obvious allusions to it. I forget exactly what he said but it was something like "moving the HQ near a large State university"...well there's only 1 of those in town...so... Plus it makes sense w/ Crows vision of ASUs expanded athletics complex, and turning that area along Rio Salado into a haven for amateur athletics. |
Interesting report I just heard on KJZZ about why cities are encouraged to apply for the Olympics, even if they aren't likely hosts: http://www.marketplace.org/topics/ec...ics-are-hassle
