The KO bridge proposal looks better in my mind because it comes together in the middle. It's a nice effect.

Forgot about that one. So many bridges in the area, but we're in an era of building again. |
There is a clear difference when it builds bridges in the United States and in Europe. In Europé they build in 9 out of 10 times collective traffic traces of any kind. I think it's time that America takes after and build into even public transport tracks under the bridge as it is done in most of those bridges in Europe. Sure, it costs a lot but in the long run it is money well invested.

The thing is, these old truss bridges are very maintenance intensive. Although the trusses have very efficient use of material, they have so much surface area that requires painting and are vulnerable to rust. Not to mention the current trend in civil engineering (spurred by the I65W collapse) to remove truss bridges that don't have redundant load paths.

That's going to be one hell of a trip! Do they plan to sail through the Panama Canal, or is it going to be dismantled and hauled cross-country?

Huge, like another Statue of Liberty, lol.

Why can't they replace old and crumbing bridges in NYC? Those bridges are used by many people.

^^^
Too complicated/expensive for now, but when we live in a city of 9 or 10 million people instead of 8, something will have to be done to address the congestion. It would be truly awe inspiring if they could get a megabridge built on the Hudson in addition to the GWB, like the one that was planned for 57th street called North River Bridge. Glad that bridge was never built.

So are they calling it the "New NY bridge" because they don't want to give it the Tappan Zee name and are probably mulling over ways to sell naming rights in a way that won't erupt the public with outrage?
|
Rest assured, it'll be referred to as the Tappan Zee for many years to come. These name experiments hardly ever hold up.
