Yup! Don't know the next time we'll have 2 in one year, if ever. Next up is the Crenshaw/LAX line in 2019, and then the Regional Connector in 2020.

Cincinnati Streetcar will open Sept 9.

Hopefully all the roadblocks and pressure from opponents would not prevent it from completion.

As promised the Metrolink Perris line opened today:

El Paso is building a 4.8 mile streetcar route.

Tarrant County's 27 mile TEX Rail isn't quite U/C, but damn close, should get going in July.

Cirrus Jun 28, 2016 3:15 PM

Huh. Had no idea. It appears it's 4.8 miles of single track though, so more like 2 miles of bi-directional. Anyway, added to the list w/ 2 miles.

Phase 1 of Denver's Northwest commuter rail opened today, so it's been moved to the completed list.

Is anyone ever curious as to why there's no rail developments for Las Vegas, a city of 2,000,000+ population? Or have you all figured that out, on your own, as to the why?

Maybe because they built a privately owned and built monorail instead? Maybe because until 1992 the bus systems was ran by private operator which ran the oldest fleet of buses in the USA? The public transit system was initiated in 1992. It contracts out the bus operations to private operators - which compete with one another for the franchise. So the public side finances everything but doesn't run or maintain it.

A history and fears of corruption within the city makes it difficult for the public transit agency to pass bonds to build a rapid transit system, whether monorail expansion, light rail, heavy rail, or streetcars. I've seen proposals and studies to build rail lines, but the finances never get raised.

This sad fact remains, Las Vegas doesn't have the experience or knowledge base to build a publicly ran rail system. It's a challenge, it first must build the public trust that it can manage buses.

Probably the same reason metro Las Vegas doesn't have or rather is just now getting a medical school.

It's a city that never really invests in anything from what I can tell. People who have tried to make LV grow up, like that Zappos guy, give up and walk away disappointed.

Is it surprising that the Monorail dead ends at the MGM, just a short ways from there to the Airport? And it doesn't go downtown to Fremont Street from Sahara Avenue?

With an estimated 9,000 cab drivers in this town, the taxi unions being a big lobbying force in both Carson City and Clark County, and now with Lyft and Uber joining in the lobbying, I sometimes wonder if Las Vegas will ever get a light rail system in this city!

For someone who loves light rail, and have ridden light rail systems in various cities in the country, I find it all extremely depressing.

Recently, RTC has been pushing the idea of a light rail system from the Airport only to Sahara Avenue, competing for an expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center and a planned $1.9 billion domed stadium to host the Raiders football team, partly financed with a an increase in the room tax.

Adelson (owner of the Venetian) has a son-in-law who just purchased the local paper, LV Review Journal, and he a big pusher for the stadium, and hardly a word about the proposed light rail system.

Las Vegas is great the way it is. It is has been successful and will continue to be. A light-rail wouldn't hurt, but won't change much.
