An up and coming area of Incheon, Korea (beside Seoul). There will be dozens of towers here in a couple more years.

when you include the belt line area, Calgary's core is getting dense and massive.

Seoul, second biggest city in the world (26 million)
http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/7227/19429bo9.jpg Staff, www.skyscrapercity.com |
^ Holy. Shit.
|
yep, people say it feels bigger than NYC (which of course it is), bigger than Tokyo. Reason is the city has very little suburban sprawl, everyone's housed in highrises and the whole city is literally all skyline - hence why there are very rare pics that can show the real size of the place.
Seoul, hemmed in by mountains, occupies a tiny, super dense footprint compared to other cities, and manages to cram in 26 million urbanites in the pic below http://geology.com/world-cities/seoul-south-korea.jpg. http://geology.com/world-cities Like Japan, South Korea is 65-70% forested, one of the highest percentages in the world (higher than Scandinavia or Papua New Guinea). In terms of urban areas, its the densest country in the world. |

Sydney, has yet to be done justice I think. :)
I think most people aren't really aware of how impressive and large it's central business district is, I mean it's significantly larger than say, it's sister city, San Francisco. It's also fairly young with most of the towers being built in the last 25 years. Australia is coming of age. http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/6...scf6485xc1.jpg http://img255.imageshack.us/i/copyof...85xc1.jpg/sr=1 http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/8...scf6481km6.jpg http://img126.imageshack.us/i/copyof...a=j&ci=-1&rt=1 http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/3...cf6486aom2.jpg http://img243.imageshack.us/i/dscf64...a=j&ci=-1&rt=3 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3227/...55504120_b.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/giopac/2716723068/ http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...y_from_Air.JPG http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...y_from_Air.JPG http://www.20bond.com/SiteFiles/20bo...dneyAerial.jpg http://www.20bond.com/page13958/Location.aspx |
And some more Australian cities.
Gold Coast Queensland Kind of like... Australia's Miami. It only has a population of 400k, so it is totally reliant on tourism and the rest of Australia visiting in the summer. It has the Q1 building, Australia's tallest skyscraper. And this part of the city is called, Surfers Paradise. :) http://shumwaydesign.com/vacation/images/goldcoast.jpg http://www.keywordspy.ca/image/domain/shumwaydesign.com http://files.myopera.com/austrianemp...dise%20034.jpg AussieQLD http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=129161601 Brisbane The capital of Queensland. http://www.abovephotography.com.au/A...1-Original.jpg http://www.abovephotography.com.au/A...land/Brisbane/ http://www.abovephotography.com.au/A...0-Original.jpg http://www.abovephotography.com.au/A...land/Brisbane/ |
The interesting thing about Australian skylines especially Melbourne and Sydney is that they are possibly three or four buildings away from being in worlds top 5 skylines. They really look impressive.
|
They will get there, Australia's population is growing at a 2% rate! By comparison, America is at 0.97% and India is 1.46%. This means Sydney and Melbourne will be 6 million person cities in 20 years, compared to 4.5 million for Sydney today and 4 million for Melbourne today.
|
Melbourne is one of my favorite skylines period. I don't really know how to explain it - it's building spacing, multiple peaks, seems extremely photogenic and completely different from pretty much every angle.
|
|
Amazing how much the city has changed, there's like only two towers above 150m in that 1973 picture, with the MLC centre still under construction too.

Here is one I took of Chicago while flying out of O'Hare on January 20th, 2009 (the day Barack Obama was sworn in, which I think adds some cool significance to this photo).
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2484666...7622054954333/ Sorry, I don't know how to get a Flickr photo to appear in-thread. If someone could be so kind to as inform me, I'd appreciate it. |
Greg, it appears that Flickr is blocking access to the image URL through the usual method (right clicking on it) because the image is set as "License (c) All Rights Reserved."
