Coincidental to reading your post and OT's post, was my viewing of this image - identified by source as "Couple on a bicycle built for two, ca.1900." Quote:
While the description is accurate, a closer look reveals a familiar face (or two). http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/utils/...XT=&DMROTATE=0 Flat tire! http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/utils/...XT=&DMROTATE=0http://digitallibrary.usc.edu/utils/...XT=&DMROTATE=0 With a certain amount of trepidation, here is a still of William Holden and Bonita Granville from the 1940 movie, "Those Were The Days." http://68.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lm...o97o1_1280.jpghttp://68.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lm...o97o1_1280.jpg |

The BFCL is the International Order of Rainbow Girls (A Masonic Auxiliary), and BFCL stands for Bible Flag Constitution Lambskin (Four symbols of the order). They cite their source as stichtingargus.nl - it's a long document with the information scattered throughout. The Wikipedia page on the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls says that "actress Marilyn Monroe was a member of Columbia Assembly #67 in Santa Monica, California (joined under her birth name Norma Jeane Baker in 1941 while still in high school)". |

This made me wonder if we'd ever seen interiors of this building before, not counting it's present incarnation as ABC's studio for Jimmy Kimmel. I don't believe so. |

The building pictured was put up ca. 1905 and pulled down in 1922. The current building was permitted that same year for owner Clark J Milliron. |

It's only about a week since we've had Julius Shulman pictures of an apartment complex in Palos Verdes, and this one's more conventional. The description calls them "Palos Verdes Apartments", but the title says "Porto Verde Apartments". It's "Job 4719: Kamnitzer and Marks, Palos Verdes Apartments (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.), 1971". I've left out a couple of the color photos and all of the black & white ones. The image below was originally portrait, but seemed to work better cropped to landscape.
http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...1.jpg~original One of the entrances. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...2.jpg~original This is roughly halfway down the side of the complex seen in the first image. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...3.jpg~original I'll finish with an arty shot of the roofs. http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...4.jpg~original All from Getty Research Institute The apartments still appear fairly isolated in the 1980 aerial view at Historic Aerials, with no additional buildings around them. That had changed by 1994. The field in the foreground of the first Shulman image became a golf course as recently as sometime between 2005 and 2009. The apartments themselves remain virtually unchanged, at least from the outside. GSV shows the name "Villas at Rancho Palos Verdes" (below) on the signage at 6600 Beachview Drive, but a little Googling suggests that the name has changed again, this time to "Avana Rancho Palos Verdes". http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...5.jpg~original GSV |

Here's a very animated Mr. Warburton in another scene, bouncing all over the place, you might say...a still from a video that leaves nothing to the imagination...of course, I'm really only interested in where the house might be. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Bb...w=w931-h533-no |
:previous: Thanks for the pic GW.
I'm surprised it's in color. Isn't the movie in black and white? (I've never seen the movie....only read about) |
