I do I do! I think the bus station sounds like an unbelievable urban exploration site.

I've tried to get in to no avail. If you figure it out let me know I'd love to go in there. Probably more cockroaches than youd care to see though.

I've heard about those tunnels and have been told they were improperly designed and are too narrow for buses to actually fit into without ripping their mirrors off.

I've been told the Deck portion of the Park can't handle 5,000+ people and associated structures for that - so it isn't a truly major event venue.
Also, there's a cavernous space under Central Ave that was originally intended to be a subterranean bus depot, but funds ran out to complete it.

No one seems to have any accurate information on what Hance can and can't hold. There needs to be new studies done and we should all know exactly which portions of the park deck can hold how much weight. Right now everything is shrouded in mystery and BS, you say "hey can we have X here?" and its always "no, too heavy" but no firm details are given.

West also had a SRC Open House last week.

Here's their Facebook page.

In other news, according to promoters of the Grand Avenue Festival, the Oasis on Grand will ostensibly be open by mid-October in time for the festival on the 22nd.

This looks pretty cool...I'm not sure if it was posted before or in another thread (I couldn't find it in a different thread):

"Irish Cultural Center Building Castle-Shaped Research Library"

It will be 3-stories high...

I love that the building literally is built right up to Central Ave, very cool stuff.

Food Truck Festival in downtown; October 22. Haven't really eaten from food trucks except for a few times in NYC and at the Phoenix Public Market so I'm gonna give as many of them as possible a try...

I noticed two things today which aroused my curiosity.

1. The building on the SWC of 7th street and CBack has been demolished.
2. The project housing at 16th street and Pierce has been demolished.

1. Re 7th St/Camelback: I have the sense it's going to be some chain retail fast food or a bank building.

2. Re 16th St/Pierce: http://www.azcentral.com/community/p...ion-homes.html. A $20 million, 3-story mixed income housing complex is going in its place. I guess that's good. There's *way* too much strictly public housing back there. I heard St Luke's wanted to gobble a chunk of it up too for a campus expansion.

Ran past the Arizona Center earlier this morning and saw some renovations going on in the retail strip on 3rd St across from AMC (where Fat Tuesday's used to be). Didn't see a sign for the new tenant and was wondering if anyone knew what was going in there? Is this where the new bakery/deli will be?

EDIT: Just found out it will be the new Corner Bakery Cafe...nice that the corner of that building will no longer be vacant.

I bet it's going to be a Chipotle/Jimmy John's/Five Guys. :haha:

It's going to be a Walgreens or CVS, I forget which. I heard this from a commercial retail broker. Prime location with the VA across the street.

hmmmmmmmmmm?

There is a Walgreen's on that corner already, the parcel isn't big enough for another drug store, and the VA hospital is 1 mile away.

The bottom left corner is the demo'd one. Top right is a Walgreens. The demo'd lot isn't even as large as that Walgreen's footprint.

Sorry, I thought it was 7th St & Indian School. They are going to raze the building on the SE corner that had the Scientology sign and put either a CVS or Walgreens there. Probably a CVS since, like you stated, there is a Walgreens at 7th St. & Camelback. But I can't figure out what they took out at 7th & Camelback, I really think he meant 7th & Indian School. Either way, beer.

westbev93 Sep 7, 2011 7:11 PM

Isn't the SWC of 7th St. and Camelback Hanratty's Bar? Is that what they tore down?

phxSUNSfan Sep 7, 2011 8:02 PM

Hanratty's is still there. They tore down the old brick building on the corner across from the Chevron; it was some kind of Auto place (paperwork) but not sure what for...maybe one of those "private" DMV's ?

dtnphx Sep 7, 2011 9:34 PM

Sorry for all the confusion, guys.

Vicelord John Sep 7, 2011 10:21 PM

The place that was there did auto title loans and cashed checks. They moved a couple of doors east and across Cback. I see no reason to believe this will end up being anything of value to any of us. I don't think there is a McDonald's close to there, so I'm going to wager it will be McDonalds.

Tito714 Sep 8, 2011 7:01 AM

There's a McDonalds on 16th st and camelback and 8th st. and indian school.
