Hi every one...The Detroit streetcar line is being constructed. It is taking a very longtime, not to be negative. I kind of hoped for something more like what i see in all the other cities. I hope phase two of the line starts construction shortly afterwards.

I moved the discussion about open gangways to a new dedicated thread, since it's really a separate topic from this thread.

Dallas OC Streetcar can be disappeared. It opened today.

Phase 1 did, but Phase 2 construction is about to start, with Phase 3 to follow later.
So it is not fully complete.

CTroyMathis Apr 14, 2015 9:31 PM

True, it would be annoying to remove it and then put it back on whenever construction re-commences eventually.

They still have to approve a construction contract on 28APR, then I'm sure more will be put out.

Cirrus Apr 16, 2015 6:52 PM

I am moving phase 1 to complete. I will list phase 2 as u/c when someone tells me phase 2 is u/c.

We can take Houston off the list for "under construction". Southeast and East End rail lines opened on Saturday!! I rode the new Southeast Line, and posted pictures. http://texasleftist.com/2015/05/hous...possibilities/

That's dope  hopefully they can get high ridership per mile like the initial line. Didn't the map indicate part of the green line was still u/c tho? 3 stations?

Correct... two stations are still under construction. They have to build an overpass to cross a frieght rail, so that's supposed to be done in about 18 months. So technically, only the Purple Line is completed.

The METRO board is already talking about extensions of the existing system, and a new Commuter Rail line that should hopefully be operational by 2018. :notacrook::D:notacrook:

BTW The TexRail line is likely to break ground later this year... this is a commuter rail that will connect Downtown Fort Worth to D/FW Airport, and represents Fort Worth's first independent rail transit line.

I moved 8 miles of the 9-mile-long Houston Green & Purple lines down to complete, but left 1 mile in the construction section since it appears the last mile of the Green line is not yet done.

Toronto's Union-Pearson Express opened this morning. It is a 25 minute trip from Pearson Airport (the airport proper, not some "Airport Railroad Station" that requires an additional transfer to the airport itself) to downtown Toronto. It runs every 15 minutes, and makes two stops along the way.

Union Pearson Express opens today

The first train on the Union Pearson Express line left for Pearson International Airport at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, marking the official opening of long-awaited and still-controversial rail line.

The express line connects travellers between Union Station in Toronto's downtown core and the airport in 25 minutes for $27.50, or $19 for those with a Presto fare card.

I had no idea that was even in the works. Congrats, Toronto.

^ Apparently they are using Nippon Sharyo DMUs, the same ones being used on the SMART project here in Sonoma and Marin Counties. The specifications of course are slightly different to meet the different needs (90 mph top speed and luggage space).
Interesting to see the different livery. Hopefully more North American transit agencies will take advantage of these attractive FRA-compliant DMUs.

Taking that ^in a few weeks, can't wait.

fflint Jul 6, 2015 11:19 PM

It's not open yet.

northbay Jul 7, 2015 2:47 AM

I think he means the UP Express.

llamaorama Jul 7, 2015 3:19 AM

27 bucks to ride downtown on a train with luggage is kind of expensive.

These guys' van service to downtown is $26.95. Coincidence; I think not.

Cirrus Jul 14, 2015 4:42 AM

Charlotte streetcar opens today, therefore I've moved it from u/c to complete.`
