not about AAF but next to the new MIA airport tri-rail/amtrak&metrorail |
The Maps Are New.
google maps & wiki maps, very newish. check out Ft lauderdale Airport, the new runway is done AAF trains will go underneath the airport. also downtown miami AAF station is under construction all the parking lots are gone. you can see the gulfstream park pegases. wow? |
|
Okay, so if I get that article right, TriRail needs to pay $48 million for their share of the downtown station, $20 million for upgrades to the track leading up to the station, and $1 million to tie in their tracks with AAF's.
I had thought it was odd how TriRail's platform was always included in the rendering even though there wasn't any talk yet of splitting the costs. I do think it is strange that AAF gets to plan an extravagant station design (more costly) and then compel the transit agency to go along with it. I like the station, but it's cool looks do little financial good to TriRail. Instead, all the profits from the stores and office space would go to AAF. Most customers going through that station will probably be TriRail commuters. That is why this station is poised to make so much more money. Will AAF charge a user fee for TriRail, or will TriRail get to own their own platform and tracks? AAF should not charge a user fee, because trirail will add so much value to the AAF properties (probably more than the express trains will). |
There is no room for Tri-Rail to have it's own tracks hence they are using the FEC/ AAF tracks. Honestly I think AAF is trying to gouge Tri-Rail knowing full well they can't come up with that kind of money in less than 2 months.

Martin And Indian River County Vote To Spend Millions In Fight Against All Aboard Florida

AAF should just add a station in Martin/Indian county. |

AAF owns the tracks and right-of-way. They are a private company operating without any subsidy. At this point, what could these counties come up with to stop the project? |
^Sounds like a slush fund to me. $4.1 million to "fight" something which can't be fought? There's really no other reasonable explanation.
|
There too much money to be made for this to even be a threat. It won't and they will need a lot more money to fight something on this scale. More of a publicity stunt to try to get negative views on the project if anything, but ... this will commence as planned and there is site work, so its not going to stop because of this vote or a iota of a complaints.
. Here we have a great project which can bring mass transit to Florida and their complaining. Shame on them! Not everybody can get what they wan't, and they aren't going to stall this project because of it. |

Metromover and its fares have nothing what-so-ever to do with FEC, or AAF.
I wish there was a better thread to post this bit of news on. ;) |
What's current planned start of revenue service? 2017? Will they open the entire Miami-Orlando line to passenger service at once or will they do it in legs like how they have funded it?

Sounds like it is progressing quite nicely!
How cool would it be to live in one of those high rises above the podium housing the station  They need to run a spur to Ft. Myers/Naples. I realize that's quite unlikely but if AAF is as successful as we all think they will be, maybe we will see the public clamoring for new rail lines that provide service all over the state. It's happening in Virginia, they've had success increasing service to stations in the state and are now expanding passenger rail to places that haven't had it for decades (ie the Roanoke expansion) Plus if they made it to Ft. Myers/Naples it's then only 130 miles more to connect to Tampa. There's already the possibility of a planned expansion to Tampa (from Orlando) right? I'm sure that's at least a decade away. |

Why? Alligator Alley already cuts through the Everglades (of course) so why not just run the rail line right next to ROW?

^The Environmentalists heads would explode that's why!

I guess thats a good thing. Orlando airport is ridiculously busy, especially in the mornings. Had a 6 am flight in August, and just wall to wall people. Much needed expansion. Orlando isn't a bad airport though. Its cute in a sense. Kinda feels like a hotel lobby at times and that carpet at the baggage claims makes it feel like a Holiday Inn. |

Could just be hardball?
If AAF wants the Tri-Rail connection into DT so bad that they're willing to front the money, then they probably want it so bad that they'll just pay for it. |
^ I doubt that AAF really wants Tri-Rail but they have released a diagram as to the configuration of the train platforms:
https://html1-f.scribdassets.com/4s6...0c1dc7d8ee.jpg If Tri-Rail doesn't come up with the $69 million within the next few weeks then the AAF won't have to build the two additional platforms. Keeping my fingers crossed that Tri-Rail can come up with the funding in time making this station a true Inter modal station. |
