Cushman's notes indicate the 1000 block of Wilshire. The only NW corner in this area that allows for these beauties to be sitting up on this embankment is at St. Paul Place which is no longer there. St. Paul Place would have been halfway between St. Paul Street and Bixel Street. Also the street sign clearly says Wilshire (see the 'Special') but less clearly I think the side street is named 'St. P...'

Here's an impressive residence that once stood on the northeast corner of Wilshire Blvd. & St. Paul Avenue. (my NLA searches are coming up empty / mainly because I don't have the owner's name) I find it hard to believe we haven't seen this house before

Hey, Thanks to everyone who worked together to locate the address of the former German Consulate. I had that photographer for a long time,
and was never able to find the address.

My eyes deceived me! Upon closer inspection of Google street view, I see the railing has been painted a shade of tan that looked, from a distance, like newly installed wood that hadn't been painted yet.

Actually, the railing is newly installed (when I saw newly, I'm comparing the current GSV to my shot of the house from some time last year):

Until late 1903, 1015 Orange Street--changed to 1015 Wilshire two years before your Ebay shot--was the home of J. T. Fitzgerald, whose next house we've seen here many times before:

I believe the impressive building behind the sailors might be the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park, but I always thought it was fairly secluded.

Well, these two swabbies are trying to hitch a ride with this pretty girl in the 1941 Pontiac (Oldsmobile not) westbound on Chavez Ravine Road (now Stadium Way) out in front of, not the Police Academy but, the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center. Still there, now in service to the LAFD.

My good friend Rob (Worldsfair39) has pointed out I apparently don't know the difference between an Oldsmobile and a Pontiac as this is clearly a 1941 Pontiac.

Oh, that railing. I didn't count that because I'm waiting for something more in keeping with the house. Building and Safety probably made the owner change it to the present arrangement so that kids wouldn't fall off the porch.

The Forget could sure do with an appropriate paint job too. With the one now, one doesn't really notice the fish-scale shingles or the other distinctive trim. However, the Forget is fully rented so the owner isn't really motivated.

Are there any RBY's around that are done up as they should be? It's so distressing looking at so many neglected gems.

What surprised me most about the German Consulate photograph was the 'Iron Eagle'/Swastika displayed on the front of 403 S. Mariposa Avenue.




But if you scratch the surface, even just a little bit, you find that the swastika on Mariposa was not an anomaly in the Los Angeles area.

Liver pâté isn't all that unbelievable. Lots of people like Braunschweiger or liverwurst on sandwiches, and that's basically the same thing. OTOH if you mean foie gras then yeah, I do see your point.
