As the city/county grow, and available land for development in the CBD lessens (due to many current projects), issues such as Tompkins County's space needs will keep arising. The city has encouraged going up instead of out for new buildings, but many Ithacans complain about losing the small town feeling. The fact is that the CBD needs to expand into residential neighborhoods. With that said, here's an article from the Ithaca Voice:

https://ithacavoice.com/2018/12/tomp...fice-building/

Another Voice article covers the city's last planning board meeting of 2018. Again Nimbys vs development rears up in several projects:

Now for a bit of a surprise. Rimland has decided to move forward with a new apartment building on the eastern third of the Green Street garage site (from the Ithaca Voice):

Some more info and renderings in the links in the article. This could be a really long process, and the responses on Facebook are mostly negative, but that's not unusual for development proposals in Ithaca.

In the drawing the new building is next to the red bricked Marriott. The tall at the other end of the garage is the Harold's Square building under construction now.
