It was the "Hermosa Hotel" at 26 Pier. It took me a minute to realize that these two pictures were the front and rear of the same structures (it's been a long day).

I believe that's 533 South Fig:

What gave it away was the Striker Apts, which were known as the Streicher once, presumably they changed the name due to anti-German sentiment during the Great War. So I went to that great panorama at USC which I knew had the Streicher in it, and worked backward down the street:

I thought that the sign said "Striker Apartments", but for some reason I couldn't find them yesterday (I must've mistyped my search!). Here's an advert for the Streicher Apartments from the 1914 CD. The name change from Streicher to Striker seems to have occurred between 1922 and 1923 (going by the CDs).

TCM ran the 1952 Joan Crawford thriller SUDDEN FEAR last night. Although the film is set in San Francisco and uses various San Francisco locations, the final chase sequence with costar Jack Palance stalking Joan by car and on foot was noirishly filmed on the streets of old Bunker Hill. Both Joan and Jack were nominated for Oscars and the film contains some wonderful sequences of suspense.

(Oops! I see this was discussed a few years back. Anyway... check it out. The film is well worth watching.)

The only other hotel I can think of from those days was the humongous Biltmore (1926-1969), north of the pier, built as the Surf and Sand Club. There hasn't been anything that big in Hermosa before or since:

The store with the EX-LAX sign was Milton's pharmacy---I bought my first copy of Famous Monsters Of Filmland there in 1958. Milton would have to tell us, "Library's closed today boys". I grew up @ 1625 Delta.

I don't recall reading about that here, I'd always assumed it was shot in San Francisco! Gloria Grahame running around the hills in her high-heels is a highlight! The film is quite fascinating. The first time I saw it was in a revival house. The Oscars it was nominated for:
