Wasn't there someone trying to raise $200 mil for a natural museum of some type that was suppose to go in Metro Phoenix? I think at one point they were looking at sites in Tempe?

I really like some of the smaller complexes Tucson gets in its downtown.

Central Station and Sol are adding vertical to skyline view from Childrens Hospital cam. Looks like they are very close to topping out.

Would be nice if they could zoom in a little more and shift slightly to the right, I think it's missing a building or two. But thinking how Astra and others will further add to this, PHX is getting so much better!

This brings back memories. I fought a helluva a lot of fires in the frame of that pic.

Yeah, seriously soled thank you. Anything over 90 degrees made me crabby in AZ, I can't imagine how you guys fight fires in much worse. Always had such immense respect for Phoenix FD, esp on those bad days.

The workforce housing translates to coliving, so that's always a plus.

The RFP indicates this is a lease as part of the deal, so it's not going to be some vacant lot that some random developer drags on about. They lose money if they don't build.

To be fair, adjusting to fighting fire in this heat was a bit easier transition for me than most. I grew up here, and before I was a firefighter I spent 9 years working construction after 4 years in the Marine Corps. Plus, I learned decades ago to do my cardio in the hottest part of the afternoon in summer to acclimate as best I could to extreme fire ground conditions.

I had to reload the page a couple of times to get some of the cameras to show an image. Not quite as good as Phoenix, but any camera views are good views :)

Interesting story on the redevelopment momentum downtown. While the sports stadiums being downtown is great momentum for game day activities, the real impact has been focusing on what they call an 18-hour economy.

- There was a mass exodus out of downtown in the 1970s. In fact, we didn’t get back to the population that we had in 1970 until 2016.
- In 2014 the goal was to get 10,000 people to live in Downtown Phoenix by 2030.
- Now, there are 23,500 that live in Downtown Phoenix and we will be at 30,000 by 2030.

Phoenix Observation Tower
 

Just came across this proposed structure from 2012 by by Bjarke Ingels Group. I'm assuming this never gained any traction but looking at the proposed location I feel like this would be the perfect attraction for downtown to bring in more people and anchor their proposed entertainment district.

I'd prefer they build an outdoor observation deck on the roof of Astra or the former Chase Tower. I remember watching a video on YouTube where an employee in Chase snuck his friends to the roof and it looked the perfect place to have an observation deck, it was so cool to see the city from up there

That's a great point - would be a great way to activate Chase tower too. Either way downtown Phoenix needs something that is different and will draw people (locals and tourists alike) to downtown other than sports and conventions.
