Guys, this is the Hyatt Centric thread. Kvetching about Aramark should go in the General Developments thread.

Does anyone know when the demo is supposed to begin?

^^I mean there are a lot of opportunities for them. What about Chestnut somewhere between 7th and 12th? Or Walnut somewhere between 21st and 23rd? Or along South Street somewhere?
It's time for this garage to be replaced with a highrise luxury hotel brand. |

Any speculation as to where Little Pete's is going to move? It's always been one of my favorite spots in the area to hang out.

Does anyone know what the back of this project is to look like? I'm hoping it won't be a blank wall. The St James facade overlooks a beautiful church, rectory and yard

Fall 2017 start date for this according to the Center City District report:

All photos are vanished from the first page. I believe this is the current iteration.

It can't be overstated how much of an improvement this will (should) be.
finally some visible signs of progress.
Is this taking just the white parking garage space or will it be occupying more than that?
Is it just the white garage being torn down? |

Does anyone else think this building is a little Hyatt centric? Don't you think they should consider the viewpoint of some other hotel chains?
Yes, a supremacist/triumphalist brand name.

My joke was funnier.

I just now realized that this building is coming up right next to St. Mark's. That's one of Rittenhouse Square's best architectural treasures. The contrast the Hyatt Centric makes with it could be a very interesting one.
Demolition has been slow and steady with that one - a lot of interior work, stripping it down and getting rid of the building's guts. But man, the exterior is really turning into a graffiti'd eyesore - eager to get it knocked down and this project underway.
I was just over there and saw nothing happening. Not one person on site.
I'm curious if they closed the 17th Street sidewalk only for the demolition phase or if the City is letting them do that for the the entire construction period.

They can set up support/scaffolding type under construction facade or the build for people to walk under if there is no other alternative. I've also seen them put water-filled plastic jersey barriers on the street as a pedestrian path when the sidewalk is closed. Each solution is a case-by-case analysis.
So, once this building gets demolished (which is evidently moving at a sloth's pace), how long will it be before we see some construction?

whats taking so long anywayz???? |

I live near here, and this garage demolition is agonizingly slow...I walk by all the time for signs of progress. There was lots of emptying out and internal demo for awhile, but everything has seemed to slow down lately...
I walk by this site frequently and on Thursday, I spotted something new:
Fencing has just gone up along this alleyway-it was not like this on Tuesday when I was here last. Looks like hardcore demo may actually start soon.... https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4560/...6cc314b5_c.jpgLittle Pete's garage by shad obat, on Flickr |
