I don't know if noirish be quite the word; but I can certainly imagine something bizarrely Angeleno happening at Clifton's . . .

Thanks, I had not seen that footage before. And that it was in color surprised me! It does seem rather odd there's no other footage of the opening of Union Station, in newsreels or anywhere else. It drew enough people that you'd think it would've drawn some more attention that way. Strange. Wonder why? |

Good eye spotting the Hillman upstairs. I think the 1958 show was also at the Shrine Exhibition Hall. Here's a photo of the empty hall. Even the circular pattern of the floorboards match. http://i63.tinypic.com/2641a4o.jpg https://www.historictheatrephotos.co...s-Angeles.aspx Original photo: Quote:

I looked through all the past posts that mention "Sanders" and none of them concerned this Oldsmobile dealership.
"Sanders Oldsmobile, La Brea & Wilshire, Los Angeles, California." https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/vSXGdk.jpg John Margolies, 1976 For some reason, the slide is usually cropped like this online, eliminating the right side of the photograph and the view of the Carnation Building in the distance) Since we know the Carnation Building is located on Wilshire Boulevard, the auto dealership must have been a bit south of Wilshire. . |

Thanks for the information Beaudry.
I wasn't really expecting Sanders Oldsmobile to be standing..but I was shocked that Irving Shapiro's mid-century Columbia Savings is gone as well. That's the first time I recall seeing the interior. It was quite impressive! "The bank's design integrates significant works of abstract art, including a 45-foot-long brass screen-waterfall sculptural fountain by local artist Taki and a 1,300-square-foot dalle-de-verre (faceted glass) stained-glass skylight by acclaimed artist Roger Darricarrere that crowns the interior light well."... franklinavenue.blog Was any of this saved? :shrugs: _________________________ update; Darricarrere's 'stained glass' ceiling is up for auction at LOST CITY ARTS Here are pieces of it up close. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/3...923/bh3PWZ.jpg...https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/3...923/3wNHdP.jpg |

Family poses for a snapshot on Vine Street just south of Hollywood Blvd. [c1950s]
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/qEnNMS.jpg Ricarda Thiesen / Pinterest :previous: What first caught my eye is the red vehicle that appears to be parked on the sidewalk. (in reality; it's, no doubt, in a parking space)* Anyhoo, it looks like the back of, what we called, the 'Resusitator' in my home town's fire department. (think Mayberry)..... *searches frantically for image* .....*finds nothing* *Hmmmm, so where is it parked? At first I thought it might be parked at Ed Pyle's old gas station on the northwest corner of Vine & Selma.... but now I think it might be somewhere closer, like next to the old Huntington Hartford Theatre [1615 N. Vine]. (near that greasy spoon that used to be there) Nevermind: Now that I think about it, the greasy spoon was located in a building that was part of Ed Pyle's old gas station. .....we've covered this, like, three times and I still can't get it right. You know what. I don't care where the damn thing is parked....;) . . .my 'Mayberry' is a ghost town now.....less Aunt Bea...more meth lab. ... . |

I think you need more than nc and el for Bingo.
