I just walked in the 7-11 at Addison and Sheffield and it's closing down today or tomorrow according to the manager. Looks like they're really moving on getting the development going.
|
What are they going to put in on the ground level where the concrete panels were along addison?

Looking at the webcam, I'm not even sure how they'll get 40,000 into the stadium with most of the gates closed off. Glad I don't have any early season tickets. http://www.earthcam.com/usa/illinois...rigleyfield_hd |
Man, just like last year, down to the wire. Pretty sure paint was still wet on the scoreboards last opening day. But that's ok. It's the best they can do considering the brief off-season schedule. Let's just be thankful they're making $500 million in improvements while keeping Wrigley open for business. ..At least they're not moving the team to Champaign for the season!

There going to have it open, no problem. The amount of change on a DAILY basis is just mind blowing. Last night, testing lights and scoreboards. All the outfield gates are ready to go, with the exception of the bleachers gate. They are still using that for equipment, but were laying more brick yesterday. The awful Harry Carey statue not back yet, but the base was poured months ago.

I clicked on the Earth Cam, and what a difference. They've pulled down bunch of scaffolding and tarp at Clark/Addison and the work was mostly done under there. There's a big truck based crane doing some heavy lifting, it's still a mess, but all of a sudden it doesn't look like such a stretch to make opening day.

Also, they are using red terracotta tiles! They were green in the renderings and I saw a truck full of shiny green terracotta. Wonder where that went, because the ticket windows at Addison & Clark are definitely red. Turns out, there were red terracotta tiles (saw a picture from 1953). |
Marquee is up, Spanish tiles are there too

Gotta admit its looking better then I expected so far.

looks great, especially the top half:cheers:

Regardless of what you think of the surrounding developments, the Field itself is turning out fantastic.
|
The restoration work on the exterior looks good, unfortunately the street view is now marred by the clutter of the metal detectors in front of the gates. Hopefully a better setup is eventually found.

Mine from today at nearly the same angle as above.

The big row of metal detectors looks god awful. If they're so necessary, why weren't they planned for up front and integrated into the doors. All the talk from the front office just smacks of a marketing ploy. "Don't stay at the Cubby Bear until 10 minutes before first pitch, you'll miss half the game". Get here 2 hours early and drink our $8.50 beers instead".
And I don't mean to be flippant, but if the metal detectors are going to cause huge lines outside the stadium, doesn't that just make the big crowd lined up outside that much bigger of a target? If someone wanted to shoot up the crowd, wouldn't even have to get out of the car. People are loosing their mind over security measures. |
^Who'd have thought these fuggin Islamic Terrorists half-way around the world would ever have an impact on the aesthetics of Wrigley Field. They're winning, and it's indeed a sad state. At any rate, this turned out to be a gorgeous rehab.

Love how they read "Welcome to the Friendly Confines," as if that somehow makes them look more friendly and appealing.
I too am hoping this was a quick setup for this year, and that it will eventually be given a more integrated design, especially once they go back and do the final pavement and landscape design for the plaza. |
