I just walked in the 7-11 at Addison and Sheffield and it's closing down today or tomorrow according to the manager. Looks like they're really moving on getting the development going.

Baronvonellis Mar 31, 2016 3:38 PM

What are they going to put in on the ground level where the concrete panels were along addison?

Between the office building going up, all the street work, the plaza work, stadium work and now all the activity at the site of the former McDonalds it was like walking through complete chaos. It'll be very interesting to see how this all pans out over the next few weeks. Wrigley opens in 2.5 weeks and it's a MESS right now. I can't see how they'll get it done, but they had an army of people crawing over that entire area.

With opening day only 10 days away, it is going to be a complete mess.
Looking at the webcam, I'm not even sure how they'll get 40,000 into the stadium with most of the gates closed off. Glad I don't have any early season tickets.

Man, just like last year, down to the wire. Pretty sure paint was still wet on the scoreboards last opening day. But that's ok. It's the best they can do considering the brief off-season schedule. Let's just be thankful they're making $500 million in improvements while keeping Wrigley open for business. ..At least they're not moving the team to Champaign for the season!

There going to have it open, no problem. The amount of change on a DAILY basis is just mind blowing. Last night, testing lights and scoreboards. All the outfield gates are ready to go, with the exception of the bleachers gate. They are still using that for equipment, but were laying more brick yesterday. The awful Harry Carey statue not back yet, but the base was poured months ago.

Per Mark Gonzales

Quote:

The marquee gate has been restored, and the ticket windows have shifted several feet north of the main entrance. New ramps have been constructed near the location of the Western gate. The restoration of steel and concrete on the main concourse will continue.

All bleacher sections will be open, with the addition of the Budweiser Bleacher Bar at the entrance serving beverages.

The Wrigley marquee has been restored and will be reinstalled before the April 11 home opener against Cincinnati. About 7,000 new seats were installed in the left field terrace section.

The Cubs also will open a Marquee Grill serving tradional ballpark food in back of the marquee on the terrace level.

In remaining consistent with their plan to maintain Wrigley's authentic look of the 1930s, the return of the ornamental fencing and terracotta along the façade on the west side is nearly completed. Much of the work near the Marquee Gate has been completed.

The physical structure of the Western Gate is nearly completed but work will continue throughout the season, with the entrance open to fans once the plaza opens in 2017.

Wrigley will have the same number of women's and men's bathroom fixtures as it had at the end of last season.

Perhaps the Cubs players will benefit the most from the latest upgrades that won't be directly visible to fans.

Their narrow, shoebox-sized clubhouse will turn into a temporary batting tunnel.

Their walk to the field will be longer, but they'll have the comfort of preparing in a 30,000-square foot clubhouse that is second only to the New York Yankees in size.

No longer will manager Joe Maddon have to walk through the clubhouse and a narrow corridor to address reporters in a dinky room that once housed Jake Arrieta's Pilates machine.

Another addition to this season per Vine Line

Quote:

Beginning this season, Pepsi will reward fans each game with the opportunity to sit in four reserved seats in the new Pepsi Batter’s Eye, located in center field in the Budweiser Bleachers below the iconic Wrigley Field scoreboard. Pepsi will give Cubs fans a chance to get closer to the action as well, with opportunities to participate in the operation of the manually operated scoreboard controls from the press box; presenting the lineup card and saying “play ball” before a Cubs home game; playing catch in the outfield prior to a game; and watching batting practice from the field.

In addition to providing unique fan experiences, Pepsi will present multiple promotional dates each season with giveaway items for up to the first 10,000 fans. The new Pepsi Batter’s Eye center-field bleacher façade will feature a Pepsi logo, plus rotational signage behind home plate and inside the main concourse. Pepsi will continue to support Cubs Charities fundraising events.

I clicked on the Earth Cam, and what a difference. They've pulled down bunch of scaffolding and tarp at Clark/Addison and the work was mostly done under there. There's a big truck based crane doing some heavy lifting, it's still a mess, but all of a sudden it doesn't look like such a stretch to make opening day.

They're putting up new brackets for the marquee now.

That statue is so disturbing. It looks like a bunch of demon children are trapped in his stomach.

HA! Perfect description...I expect the wee ones to tumble down from the plinth and chase me, as Harry's ghostly laugh echoes. Well he's back!

Also, they are using red terracotta tiles! They were green in the renderings and I saw a truck full of shiny green terracotta. Wonder where that went, because the ticket windows at Addison & Clark are definitely red. Turns out, there were red terracotta tiles (saw a picture from 1953).

Marquee is up, Spanish tiles are there too

Regardless of what you think of the surrounding developments, the Field itself is turning out fantastic.

The restoration work on the exterior looks good, unfortunately the street view is now marred by the clutter of the metal detectors in front of the gates. Hopefully a better setup is eventually found.

J_M_Tungsten Apr 10, 2016 3:11 AM

Mine from today at nearly the same angle as above.

The big row of metal detectors looks god awful. If they're so necessary, why weren't they planned for up front and integrated into the doors. All the talk from the front office just smacks of a marketing ploy. "Don't stay at the Cubby Bear until 10 minutes before first pitch, you'll miss half the game". Get here 2 hours early and drink our $8.50 beers instead".

And I don't mean to be flippant, but if the metal detectors are going to cause huge lines outside the stadium, doesn't that just make the big crowd lined up outside that much bigger of a target? If someone wanted to shoot up the crowd, wouldn't even have to get out of the car. People are loosing their mind over security measures.

^Who'd have thought these fuggin Islamic Terrorists half-way around the world would ever have an impact on the aesthetics of Wrigley Field. They're winning, and it's indeed a sad state. At any rate, this turned out to be a gorgeous rehab.

Love how they read "Welcome to the Friendly Confines," as if that somehow makes them look more friendly and appealing.

I too am hoping this was a quick setup for this year, and that it will eventually be given a more integrated design, especially once they go back and do the final pavement and landscape design for the plaza.
