NEW YORK | 310 West 40th St | 401 FT | 42 FLOORS

This block of Garment District should be renamed "Hotels R Us"! I don't see the logistics of watching a junky hotel go up in its own thread, either.

Abraham Noy of 310 Group LLC is turning 310 West 40th Street into a 42-story hotel.

The 401-foot tall hotel, with 287 rooms, will sit on the 4,937-square-foot lot between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, Department of Buildings and PropertyShark records indicate.

It appears that 310 Group LLC acquired the property in 1998, according to city records, but further information wasn’t readily available.

I was just looking at those hotels along the south side of the bus terminal last night...

West 40th Street has become a prime corridor for new hotel development in Manhattan, and now, YIMBY has the reveal for yet another project that is about to begin rising at 310 West 40th Street.

Unfortunately, the new developments along 40th Street are also some of the least attractive buildings in New York City. Cheap cladding and setbacks predominate, and a row of uncomely 30-odd story towers already stare back at the equally unappealing Port Authority. Their new companion will stand 42 stories and 401 feet tall, and contain a total of 287 rooms. Abraham Noy of 310 Group LLC is the developer, and Nobutaka Ashihara is the architect.

[...]

Per on-site signage, completion of the tower is slated for September of 2016.

Barf.

Yea I'm not a fan of it either. Usually I am very pro-development, but looking at this makes me want to gag. I know its near Times Square but jeez, have some class when designing these.

Skyguy_7 Nov 21, 2014 2:55 PM

It fits in perfectly next to the Bachelorette party gifts/ Lubes/ Dancer wear shop.

Seriously though, this is a new low in horrible design for Manhattan.

Congrats.

Now you have me pining for the days of Gray Ugly Cheap Hotels.

Have mercy.

I'm going to have trouble sleeping tonight.

Hypothalamus Nov 22, 2014 5:54 AM

It's just so bad, LOL. How did this architect get through design school??

munchymunch Nov 22, 2014 6:17 AM

Ugly AF, and shitty ceiling heights lol.

Update:

According to an insider, this is not the final product when it comes to the facade, and that its designs are in the works. This is an outdated proposal design (facade wise), even if the construction poster says otherwise. Its subject to change.

Alright, this turned out way better than that POS rendering earlier. ;)

which is being designed by Nobutaka Ashihara and developed by Abraham Noy’s 310 Group LLC. The hotel will total 42 stories and 287 rooms.

This stretch of West 40th Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, is currently one big construction zone. Several budget hotels already exist on the strip, but both 310 West 40th Street and 350 West 40th Street are now under construction, while additional projects at 306 and 308 West 40th Street are working their way through the DOB’s approval process.

Luckily the new look for 310 West 40th is an improvement over the drawings, and it should join its fellow budget-oriented siblings as relatively inoffensive filler. The street-wall is maintained for the first few floors and a lattice-like element wraps the tower’s base, providing some visual flare. Above, the massing thins and yields to a slender and simple brick tower.

Per on-site signage, completion is anticipated by late 2016.

It looks like a tall, skinny prison.

yankeesfan1000 Jan 27, 2015 1:31 PM

So judging by the base this will be a prison.

NYguy Jan 27, 2015 3:56 PM

LOL.

Still needs more windows.
