It's unfortunate that he chose to close rather than sell his recipes/social media accounts. He had a few people working for him, as I understand, that could have continued on. I'm guessing he plans to return to it someday in some form.

Aah. It’s interesting Leo’s wasn’t mentioned in the article I read about Gud Eats shutting down.

I know this is an old post, but I also found it interesting how Leo’s ownership of Güd wasn’t mentioned once. Always talked about it as a 2 restaurant business & referred back to the founder for comments (some stories - like Global’s - implied he’s the owner).

I agree with others, this was just a brutal location to choose at the best of times… but with the lunch crowd essentially gone, and Güd potentially being seen as a niche menu, they really didn’t have a fighting chance. Could’ve seen it surviving/thriving in Cathedral, or even out in a pad spot with profile & parking.

We picked up from Güd a couple times - food was excellent. But if we didn’t know a couple vegans & vegetarians, I’m not sure we would’ve even been aware it existed… Leo’s really didn’t bring their trademark marketing to the table.

Dojo Ramen opening this fall. Modern Korean and Japanese cuisine in September in the old Flip location. Same owners as Avenue.

I think this would work in a big Canadian city, but not in the crime infested hel l hole of Regina downtown. Nobody wants to be there unless they have to be.

As much as I prefer not having to work downtown five days a week, I certainly appreciated being down there and taking in the restaurants, Farmers Market, etc. I can't wait for things to fully open up again. I have no idea what McBean is talking about.

Yeah, I've always been aware of my surroundings when I've had to walk home after working late, and things did get a little sketchier when downtown had about 10% of it's normal workforce... But prior to that, I've always enjoyed my time in the downtown area.

Brewed is downsizing. Harbour Landing and Dewdney are up for sale.

felt like they were growing pretty quickly. I'm sure WFH kicked their business model in the teeth (I get decidedly less brewed coffee than I did when I was at an office building. I buy beans from Green Spot & brew at home... and cinnamon buns, and cheese buns, because Sunshine).

They've never been too shy about pulling the plug, which is smart. Weren't they planning a drive-thru only location for Park or Winnipeg area?

They were yes, but nothing has materialized yet. Probably due to cost when they realized the whole bloody site needed paving too.

REAL announced they have signed a deal with Adam Sperling/YQR Distillery to open a "brewery and distilling facility" using 40,000 sq ft of the Agribition Building (I believe that is the entire space). Besides a brewery and distillery, it will have a "restaurant, tasting room, distillery bar, interior and exterior patios, event and banquet space, a liquor store, a barrel-aging facility, a section for warehousing and distribution and a kitchen for teaching".

Yay! Let's get drunk and then go puke on the midway rides during the QCX!

That sounds great. Though I question how that fits into the mandate of REAL.
