I love it already, and it's already a fully fledged attraction. That's either good or bad, depending on your view. But it's already at a level that I wouldn't have expected on it's first week.
One thing I will note, you can feel it shake a little at the top, but that's to be expected.



I've heard people calling it the "honeycomb". Related wants people to come up with ideas based on experiencing it. I haven't settled on one yet though.

I love it. I hope it has on point security, because of safety issues.

I know it's a morbid and distressing thought, but there is NO suicide prevention in place on this structure.

I have to imagine an unfortunate Bobst Library-style situation in the future :( .

This is what I thought as well, the whole thing screams "please commit suicide on me".

Aesthetically it's quite gimmicky and tacky, functionally it's utterly pointless.

The thing is already drawing crowds of people who enjoy it. That's the point of it.

As far as suicide prevention, the city is full of places where you could off yourself if you wanted to. Somebody brings it up whenever something new is built, yet the city still survives without a surge of suicides taking place. Go figure. But hey, if you won't enjoy it, that's your thing. More than enough people have and will.

So someone finally jumped off it.

I think they should have put a deep water feature around the underneath to impede / prevent deaths from jumping.

Yeah, very sad, but nothing is gonna stop someone from jumping if they want to. From that height, not even the water feature would be safe. But it happens, and happens more often than people realize, unless you read the news. Bridges, buildings, many things to jump off of if you are so inclined to. You can't foolproof everything because people can harm themselves anywhere. Accidents happen as well, like the time someone fell at the WTC Path oculus trying to catch a hat. But the top level of the mall at the Hudson Yards overlooking the great room is far more scarier than the top of this thing.

2 jumpers in a month at Watertower Place in Chicago. Sad, but no way to keep a determined jumper from jumping.

Nope. We have people jumping in front of subway trains. There was talk of installing those glass walls like they have in some places, but if someone wants to get on a track, they will. If someone wants to walk out into traffic, they will.

You write as if suicide prevention was a zero-sum game. The fact that someone could kill themselves by other means doesn't mean that steps can't or shouldn't be taken at the vessel to prevent further deaths.

Replace the waist-high railings with higher glass walls. Maybe install rubber paving material around the base. At the very least, they could put up suicide prevention posters with crisis hotline numbers like they do on bridges...
