Agreed. That's what it basically is. It's gold and shaped like a honeycomb. Sure we'll call it the vessel because clearly it carries things places only it doesn't.

I think the name should have alluded to a "stepwell" which was the basis of the idea. I guess "Vessel" already does that a bit.

This might sound kind of morbid, but has anyone considered that this could become a sort of suicide hotspot? Just something that crossed my mind, maybe it's a stupid thought.

Exactly, as a Chicago native you never hear anyone refer to it as Cloud Gate.

it is interesting to compare and contrast the two. the bean was always going to be the bean no matter what, just as this was always going to have a corporate approved pre-branded moniker shoveled on us. seems hard to believe as both are 'new,' but indeed they are built in different eras. they certainly reflect their times, don't they? with the simple and clean bean and the vessel steps being more complicated and actually physically challenging (allusions to obama era and the exhausting trump era).

Not to knit pick, but the "Bean" opened up in 2006. Well within the Bush era, for better or worse...I'm sure this one will find a suitable name as well.

i had no idea about the chinese bean — interesting, that one seems a bit unsung.
