I love this building. Looks like something the ancient Greeks would have built, had they come up with high-rises.

Mycenaean, Minoan and other proto-Greek Mediterranean cultures are famous for pioneering the use of corbel arches - they're often credited with inventing the 'true arch'.

I don't know, I am not a historical archivist. Simply the first idea that came to my mind to describe the vibe I felt.

^^^ But yes, mostly due to the archs, which as the friendly user above me has described, they pioneered.

DDG’s Gaudi-Inspired 180 East 88th Street Gets Its Curtain Wall On The Upper East Side

180 East 88th Street is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

Every other building in the shot has the same roof tower. It's part of a skyscraper. Not a big deal.

Some towers do a better job of masking it than others. If you look at the UES, a lot of towers have water towers at the top, but various architectural elements help to mask it or make it seem like its not even there, but this will vary depending on the tower. Some are obvious, others aren't.

This simple tower is elegant and eye-pleasing. Not sure why though, maybe it's because it's not a dull, cold glass facade? I guess any new development that dares to use earthy materials instantly becomes attractive to my tired eyes. By tired I mean tired of seeing glass facades ruining street walls. Also, arches need to be used more. They are doing wonders to add interest to the facade (ala 130 Williams)

I am hoping that the the gold window trim comes out more. From the photos I have seen it looks more like a dull grey. IMHO I think this is what makes the facade pop in the renderings.

The new tower is gorgeous, but I hate those heinous white brick boxes that infest the east side like a horde of vile vermin. In my opinion, those hideous pieces of trash could be dramatically improved by putting in new windows with black divided paines and black metal framing around the windows. Of course, that sadly won't happen, and they will remain horrific eyesores.

I disagree 100%. They are not glass. Good chance I jump on board. Brick/stone facade? Almost guarantee I will like it. They look like great infill.

He's referring to the postwar, glazed brick towers that are all over the East Side, not the more recent brick or limestone towers.

The postwar towers are pretty banal and nondescript, at best, though there are exceptions, like Manhattan House.
