Are those white blocks the same foam type stuff they used to construct the topography in Maggie Daley Park?

^Love the glass, but what a weird looking tower. Two more 3-floor-tall setbacks would have gone a long way.

Agreed, similar to 465N park. Looks like a vape battery or something stubby.

Possibly one more floor.

Taking this a step further-- the east tower would look better with said setbacks in the 600ft range and the west tower in the 800 range.

Very Melbourne-esque

the slight tilt off the rectangle of the larger area brings some interest

Would love to see more melbourne and gold coast style skyscrapers on the Chicago coast!

The west tower is topped out and the east tower is a couple of floors away from being topped off.

I guess they'll open mid 2021 in that case, super exciting. That also means (at least according to plan) that Parcel I will start.

Saw them taking down the shorter crane today. Didn't jump it down, just dismantling the shorter crane with the taller one.

These are so good. We need more 600-800 footers in that highrise section of Streeterville it looks weird being so short compared to the rest

Chi-Sky21 Dec 24, 2020 1:05 AM

The angle makes it look like they catch the street lights exactly through the blow through hole. Pretty cool.

The last one is topped off now right?

I don't have a camera but I usually go to check out construction sites when I take walks around the city. Here's a few cell phone shots from yesterday (Dec 31).

So does Site I start when these both top off or when they completely open to the public.

RedCorsair87 Jan 3, 2021 1:47 PM

Yimby stated it could start in 2021 or 2022, but that doesn't sound very definitive.

Razorback Jan 4, 2021 3:37 AM

My outstanding question pertains to if Site I will entail both residential to own and residential to rent. This seems to be the most safe approach both financially and occupancy for projects this size.

Some seem to think site I is going to break ground as soon as construction wraps up on Cirrus and Cascade just b/c the developer said site I was the next tower to start after those two are completed. The developer simply meant site I was the next tower to break ground but not necessarily right after. Also, I believe site I is supposed to host 600 condos after the hotel portion was removed. Minus COVID, we would have been lucky to have site I break ground late 2021. I highly doubt that'll happen now. Maybe sometime in 2022. Hope I'm wrong though.

COVID has been the quick sharp shock to the system. Rising sea levels is what will keep the Chicago market booming.

Yea, to quote the article the whole thing may take 5-7 years. Not sure how long it's been but it's a simple math problem once that's figured out.

Quote:

The tower is the final phase for the three-building plan at Parcels IJKL. Work will not begin on the structure until Cirrus and Cascade are complete. Reports state that the total construction period for Cirrus, Cascade, and Parcel I will be between five and seven years.

That would make sense, are the shorter (currently UC) ones rentals?

Chicago_Forever Jan 4, 2021 5:58 PM

^ Cascade is all rental while Cirrus is all condo.

From an architectural aspect, I'm fairly unimpressed with these two towers.

They're simple but elegant IMO. I'm personally impressed, they seem VE'd just the right amount (w/o looking too boring)

If nothing else, they are more interesting than most of the other towers in LSE

The Pimp Feb 17, 2021 6:33 PM

Nothing more than filler.... Boring; short and completely unremarkable. This is the front door to the city. Instead of something really beautiful we got something off the shelf at home depot. IMO.

Chi-Sky21 Feb 17, 2021 7:26 PM

Look pretty good to me, much better than some of their neighbors in LSE. Also we gain the connection to the lakefront with this also.

left of center Feb 19, 2021 3:53 AM

I think the proportions are off, they appear short and stubby. For such a prominent site, Magellan probably could have done better. Lets hope Site I dazzles us and draws the eye away from these ;)
