Imagine a path in the park that is 10 feet wide. A couple could walk right next to each other on one side, and another person could pass on the far side with 6 feet of space between the “strangers”. When that couple is instead walking 3 feet apart from each other, and 3 feet from either edge of the path, they are blocking it completely.

Older people are far more likely to be guilty of this, speaking as someone who has run in my local Royal Park at least a couple of times each week for 7 years. It’s a frustration because this is almost as much of an asshole move in normal times as it is with the virus. They just don’t seem to understand, or care, how to share space.

Actually, what is so obvious in San Francisco is that it’s young techies and tourists who do this. German tourists especially seem prone to it. But definitely the coders just out of college making 6 figures and assuming they own the world . . . Kind of like YOU.

this right here, when I lived in the Mission i would encounter packs of techworkers (disclaimer, i also work in tec) prancing down valencia and mission taking up the entire sidewalk oblivious to anyone else. I just stopped getting out the way after and while and bumped into whoever i had to bump into. Eventually I moved to the southbay where the techworker presence was less obnoxious.

Meanwhile, Crude oil futures just dropped to 19 cents US a barrel from a high of 66$ in the last year.

In fact it is now trading at -10$ a barrel.

You have most of the world on lockdown for a month, the demand for oil has completely collapsed but the supply still was being produced at normal levels

The oil industry is very cyclical but of course this is a whole other level. For everyone involved with oil its going to be rough for a while but for many other industries having cheap oil is a good thing.

Itll rebound as lockdowns wind down.

The Saudi-Russo trade war probably didn't help.

I just read in Politico that in exchange for the Saudi/Russian production cut (which won't happen until May) Trump apparently promised MBS we wouldn't bail out the domestic oil industry. Which means OPEC gets what it wants, insofar as we won't have much of an oil industry left at the end of this.

We will have an oil industry. Our "oil industry" consists of oil still in the ground and the technical knowledge of how to extract it (which is what we lacked in the days of the OPEC embargo of the 1970s). Anytime prices rise enough to make pulling it out of the ground economic, we will do so. Meanwhile, we can let the Saudis and the other Gulf producers deplete their reserves and sell them to us at bargain prices if we must. Why not? Leaving oil in the ground is cheaper than pumping it up and then back into the "strategic reserve".

Fracking industry, right? If Biden wins in November I wouldn't expect them to be friendly to fracking, either, so that industry is in for a rough ride. But Trump is nothing if not erratic, so I wouldn't take that promise to the bank if I were MBS.

Fracking will come back if the conditions that gave birth to it ever return. Rmember "Drill, baby, drill"? The Republicans won elections with that slogan and they will win with "Frack, baby, frack" if we ever see $4/gallon (or in CA $5) gas and gas lines like we have seen. As long as people can buy gas for under $2, they are all environmentalists. $3 and up in most of the country (at least $1 higher in CA), not so much.

Detroit just had the lowest new cases reported recently in month and at about half of the peak increase. Lowest deaths since April 5th. This downward trend seems to be holding.

Man, I don't know. One of my biggest complaints are people walking without being aware of their surroundings...on a bike only path. I honestly haven't been able to pin down the demographic that does it most, it seems like old young tourist local black white whatever, there is just a segment of the population that does this. Hell, we might have all done it before, I don't know.

Continued downward trend of cases in the New Orleans over the past two weeks, and it was great to see in the news today that Ochsner Hospital released their 1500th recovered patient.

The first widespread testing regardless of symptoms is occurring at the jail. The sheriff is testing every inmate and employee, and the numbers show a very high rate of spread. This population is likely not representative of the entire region and it's a small sample size, but it's the only non-symptom related data we have to work with. Of the 340 tests processed so far, 114 have come back positive. That's an infection rate of 33.5%. If this could be reasonably extrapolated to the larger population, that would mean approx. 131,000 people have been infected in the city of New Orleans. The jail director said many of those testing positive have not exhibited any symptoms.

Once again (for like the 12th time), no politics in this thread.

Take that crap to the CE toilet, where it belongs.

The price war is actually the main cause of it.

It looks like we may open parks in the near future (playgrounds and gym equipment will remain closed), but they will be open for jogging, nature hikes...etc. No basketball games in the courts either. Only 1 player shooting allowed. Dog parks to stay closed as well (i feel for people with dogs who live in apartments/condos)

Not so fast.

It is very expensive to shut down wells and damages the infrastructure, not to mention it is a hard task to start them up again. This is a nightmare situation for oil companies. There probably aren't enough capping engineers to cater to individual conventional wells and stop the flow of oil in the short term.
