What about Brightline in Florida? And there is a line U/C from San Bernardino to Redlands, IIRC.

Markitect Aug 31, 2019 12:02 AM

Cirrus, a correction to make in the "Now Opened" section:

Milwaukee streetcar starter line - 2.25 miles is placed under 2012, but should actually be under 2018.

Cirrus Sep 1, 2019 6:12 PM

OK.

I moved Milwaukee to 2018, added Finch West, and removed Niagara. The San Bernardino line is already listed.

Brightline from Miami to West Palm Beach is already complete. If the Orlando extension has started, tell me.

I swear I saw a picture somewhere of work starting on the Brightline project. I don't know enough about it to know if it is the extension or perhaps an expansion of the existing line in some form.

I think it was in the Brightline thread. I don't know if this counts as actual construction.

Clearing land looks like construction to me. Sometimes we don't count utility work, but that looks like not just utilities.

I added Brightline Orlando extension to the main page.

Looks like the Foothill Gold Line is in construction phase now:

Could we add the SEPTA Route 15 extension to the list of u/c? They're currently laying track along Richmond Ave.

Only utility relocation so far, so may not qualify for "under construction" based on past practice for this thread, but the first round of construction notices came out for the next Phoenix light rail expansion--the 'South Central' line that will go south from downtown 5.5 miles. They will also be building a downtown 'hub' as this is the first new line in Phoenix's system--until now we had a long 28-mile system that was linear from one end of the metro to the other. Exciting stuff.

Preliminary work has commenced on the fully funded 5.7 kilometer extension of the Millennium Line in Vancouver known as the first phase of the Broadway Subway. (Such as relocating utilities)

700 meters elevated
5 KMs underground
6 stations

Proper construction is to start next year with completion in 2025.

Guessing that makes it not eligible for this list yet, but still worth mentioning.

An 8 KM elevated extension of the Expo Line will also begin in late 2021 or early 2022. This could be extended to 16KM if the funding to build the entire segment without phases comes forward.

I am way late on this, but I imagine that this is comprised mostly of SMART in the northern Bay Area.

Added to the front page list:
  • Foothill Gold line
  • Phoenix South Central line

Holding off for now:
  • SEPTA Rt 15: I'm confused about what's happening there. I've never heard of this project, and my google results look like it's reconstructing an existing segment. Is this adding new service to a place there wasn't any before, or is it rebuilding tracks that already had trolleys running on them?
  • Vancouver Millennium line: Utility work doesn't count, but please do update us when proper construction begins.

It’s a restoration of service. The 15 only runs as a trolley up to Girard and Front, where it stops. It used to run all the way up to about Tioga. That section is currently being restored back into service.

Think of it like the Wawa Restoration. The trains used to run there, then they didn’t, but now they will.

Cirrus Oct 29, 2019 9:12 PM

How long ago was service cut? I don't need an exact number. But are we talking the ballpark of 2 or 3 years, or decades?

Service was bustituted in the early nineties, along with the 23 and 56. Trolley service from 63rd and Malvern to Girard and Front was restored in about 2005, and they're now restoring the full route.

Cirrus Oct 31, 2019 5:58 PM

OK. If this portion has been bus-only for 20+ years, I'll add it to the list (update: done). If it had been like 2 years ago then I wouldn't have wanted to.
