I must have missed the memo.

it's all good, the silliness of the cow is entirely appropriate for the silliness of this "proposal". |
Yes, at one point Alliance or somebody posted a picture of the spire with cows attached all over it saying it was the redesign of the Spire (when we were all anticipating the "Version C" or whatever it was).
Basically it's become a symbol of pie-in-the sky projects. It was originally a ridiculous proposal to construct a giant fiberglass "Mrs. O'Leery's Cow" statue on the plot of land reserved for DuSable Park. |
Are there news about this possible great building ?

^Damn, the US could really use a 2000 footer...
Then again Chi town already has many massive supertalls :) |
hard to believe they are STILL drilling caissons for the cow

i'm inclined to move this thread to the fantasy/never built sub-forum so that new-comers aren't continually fooled into thinking that this thing is anything remotely close to a real proposal.
tom and hydrogen, you guys agree/disagree? |
Whatever. . . I don't care what happens to this thread. . .
. . . |

^ new comers are that clueless because they come into this thread asking for updates on this "proposal".
there are no updates, this is pure fantasy. |
Yeah, I agree. On the off chance any real news ever appears, the thread can just be moved back to the proposal section. Though, it was fun to think something that tall might be proposed.
|
Chicago Stump! I forgot about that. It was hilarious but alas, I got no copies of that. But lotsa pics of secant walls & the inside of caissons . . .
|
Any news on this? i havent heard anything since july when it said that it would take a " several month process for approval". :(
|
this isn't a real proposal, it's pure fantasy.
i'm moving this thread to the appropriate forum so we don't have people periodically popping in asking for "updates". |
^^^ What Steely? Didn't you see the 12' Cassion cranes CASE was using at the spire site have been set up next door to the Post Office and are drilling away?
 |
I hate this thread.
I hope one day to see a realistic proposal for this building |
So I guess this means Chicago isn't going to get a supertall anytime soon.
|
I guess I had some hope for this project when it was still in the proposal section, oh well, I really really hope to see another supertall (preferebly a 2000 footer) in Chicago someday.. Chicago is too great to stop buildings skyscrapers.
|
Chicago isnt impressing me these days. We need at least one 1000 footer. No ones brave enough to propose one.....
|
:previous: Why don't you propose one?
|
I almost forgot about this proposal until I was browsing in this section. Zero news since the week the idea was unveiled to the public. I guess that shows how non serious this is.
|
im 13 years old and i want to be an architect. UNFORTUNATELY i have to wait a decade longer
|
A model for Google Earth/SketchUp I threw together with the help of a previously made warehouse model. 'Tis crude but it give a good idea of what it would look like on the skyline.

But also, remember that reading up on some of these projects will teach you a lot more than anyone on here will be willing to summarize for you! If you are ever bored and want to learn a lot, go back into the archived threads and check out what was going on with the Chicago Spire or other proposals during the boom in 2005-2008. I feel old now that I've realized people that are just old enough to be joining forums were only 7 or 8 when I first joined this forum and weren't even born when I started following this stuff when I was your age back in the late 1990's... |

A Proposal A Marketing Concept Architectural firms sometimes generate concepts for clients to give ideas (or even just for themselves) to gain attention. What then happens is it gets up on the internet: Firm gets their name out Public interprets the "project" in different ways. Some understand the visionary nature of the project as an idea and nothing more, while others mistake it as a real proposal. The public likes renderings and pictures of cool buildings, especially tall ones, so it gets alot of discussion in places like this website. It's all good, but I think Post Office Proposal got some harsh criticism for being too unrealistic. People....It's a CONCEPT. I think moving it to this section of the website was appropriate. |
Thank you Hayward.

Not that I disagree...

Either way, I was not expecting to see a story on this today. |

However, I do think its possible that he will do some sort of real estate improvement of some kind. For those who know the past of Davies, has he really never done anything but flip property? He's really never built or renovated anything? |
Well, for me, the best solution is to built a single 2000 ft office+hotel tower like Miglin Beitler Skyneedle or Los Angeles Donald Trump Tower
http://www.nyase.com/trump_tower.php |
There isn't a single proposal in Chicago that has surpassed the Skyneedle. Someone needs to pick that thing back up and build it.
|
Do you mean this Chicago proposal? ;)

OMG, the guy in the background of that old tower proposal photo must be Kennon Earl's dad or something!

Who the hell is Kennan Earl?

^^^ My thoughts exactly...
He provided a link to his blog, but I googled him and I'm not certain he even has a wikipedia stub... |

according to SSC this is an actual proposal not just a vision, maybe it won't get built to 2000 feet but im under the impression some sort of massive tower could be put here.
|
Nope sorry you were duped but nothing will ever be built there. At least nothing resembling this project. Nothing will be done to the PO and no tall buildings will be built.
|
Why? The development would be good for the city I feel.

But whoever buys it will most certainly develop something there right? Such a huge piece of land to go to waste.
Oh well, I hope Chi town pulls off another supertall or two here eventually, that would be amazing! |
Hopefully someone can build something there eventually though, as the site has air rights to 2000'
(if I'm not mistaken) |

^SSC lists it as a serious project, but they're data isn't always correct.
It did say the project wouldn't go under way for 5 to 10 years, which means something could maybe happen. Isn't the city of Chicago still trying to approve this? |
